Job Summary:
The Lead Adjudicator is a key position responsible for overseeing the adjudication of personnel security cases for the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA) and 94 United States Attorneys’ Offices (USAOs). This role involves evaluating investigative reports and other records to determine individuals' suitability for employment and eligibility for access to classified information, ensuring compliance with federal guidelines and standards. The Lead Adjudicator prepares detailed recommendations, drafts adjudicative correspondence, and manages personnel security databases. With expertise in adjudication processes and personnel security policies, the Lead Adjudicator plays a critical role in safeguarding national security interests and maintaining the integrity of the Department of Justice’s operations.
Responsibilities/Duties:
1. Adjudication Management:
o Lead the adjudication process for personnel security cases, ensuring compliance with federal guidelines and standards.
o Evaluate reports of investigations and other records to determine individuals' suitability for employment and eligibility for access to classified information.
2. Case Review and Analysis:
o Receive, review, and assemble detailed security packages in JSTARS for federal personnel security specialists.
o Assess favorable and derogatory information, resolve outstanding issues, and prepare recommendations for suitability/security determinations.
3. Correspondence and Documentation:
o Draft and review adjudicative correspondence, including Letters of Interrogatory, Adjudicative Worksheets, Notice of Proposed Actions, and Summary Worksheets.
o Prepare detailed written reports of findings and recommendations for second-level review.
4. Policy Compliance:
o Ensure adherence to adjudication guidelines and standards to protect national security interests.
o Collaborate with personnel security specialists to maintain consistency in adjudication practices.
5. Database Management:
o Assist in managing personnel security databases, ensuring accurate and timely updates related to adjudication cases.
6. Communication and Coordination:
o Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills to discuss analyses and prepare recommendations.
o Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve adjudication-related issues.
7. Training and Guidance:
o Provide guidance and support to adjudicators and personnel security specialists.
o Assist in special projects and other adjudication-related duties as requested.
Skills and Competencies:
· Expertise in adjudication processes, personnel security policies, and investigative requirements.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Proficiency in managing security databases and interpreting investigative data.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for coordination and reporting
Qualifications:
· At least 2 years of experience adjudicating personnel security cases for the United States Government.
· Extensive knowledge of adjudication processes and guidelines for determining suitability for employment and access to classified information.
Education/Certifications:
· Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of relevant adjudication experience OR 15 years of relevant experience without a degree
