Job Title: Barrier Maintenance Technician – Washington D.C. (Northeast Region)

Job Summary

A Barrier Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of barriers, hydraulic barrier systems, and access control systems to maintain security and control access to restricted areas. This role involves installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of barriers and associated equipment. Candidates must be based in the Northeastern U.S. (VA, DC, MD, PA, NJ, NY, and surrounding states) and be willing to travel up to 50% of the time. Having a robust electrical background is a major plus.

Key Responsibilities

1. Installation:

  1. Install and set up various types of barriers, including hydraulic barriers, boom gates, turnstiles, bollards, electronic gates, and access control systems.
  2. Ensure that installations comply with safety regulations and manufacturer specifications.

2. Maintenance:

  1. Regularly inspect and maintain barriers, hydraulic barrier systems, and access control equipment to ensure they are in good working order.
  2. Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as lubrication, cleaning, and adjustment of mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic components.
  3. Replace worn-out or damaged parts as needed to prevent breakdowns.

3. Troubleshooting:

  1. Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with barriers, hydraulic systems, and access control systems.
  2. Identify and resolve electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, or software-related problems.
  3. Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair activities.

4. Repairs:

  1. Perform on-site repairs and replacements of damaged or malfunctioning components.
  2. Coordinate with suppliers or manufacturers for warranty claims or spare parts procurement when necessary.

5. Testing and Calibration:

  1. Conduct regular testing and calibration of barrier and hydraulic systems to ensure accuracy, safety, and reliability.
  2. Ensure that access control systems are functioning correctly and granting access to authorized individuals only.

6. Documentation:

  1. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities.
  2. Keep records of inventory, spare parts, and equipment specifications.

7. Safety:

  1. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working on barriers, hydraulic systems, and associated equipment.
  2. Ensure that safety mechanisms on barriers are functioning correctly to prevent accidents.

8. Customer Service:

  1. Interact with clients or facility managers to address concerns, schedule maintenance, or provide technical assistance.
  2. Provide excellent customer service by responding promptly to inquiries and requests.

Qualifications and Skills

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training in hydraulics, electronics, or mechanics is highly beneficial.
  2. Proven experience with hydraulic barrier systems, maintenance, and repair.
  3. Knowledge of electrical systems, electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, and access control technology.
  4. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  5. Basic computer skills for programming and configuring access control systems.
  6. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  7. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  8. Physical fitness and the ability to lift and move heavy equipment.
  9. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  10. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 50% across VA, DC, MD, PA, NJ, and NY.
