The Mission

At Beyond New Horizons (BNH), we seek skilled individuals to join our team at Arnold Air Force Base, where you will operate and maintain the critical infrastructure that makes groundbreaking ground testing possible. You will command a diverse array of powerful systems—from massive electric motors and compressors to sophisticated control and data acquisition technologies. While we don't design the vehicles, we create the extreme conditions they must endure. Your work is essential to providing our customers with the vital data they need to validate design and ensure flight-worthiness for the next generation of aerospace systems.

A Role with Dynamic Responsibilities

This is not a role where you'll be siloed into a single function. We are a systems management-driven team, and you will be expected to contribute across the full lifecycle of our systems. One day you might be deep in calculations, the next you could be overseeing an installation, and the next you might be developing maintenance procedures. We are looking for a versatile and proactive engineer who thrives in this variety in solving problems and is eager to apply and develop their skills to diverse challenges.

Job Duties:

  • The person in this role would be expected to utilize sound engineering practices and practical technical rigor to ensure effective results
  • Perform work which involves the preparation, interpretation or review of calculations, specifications, plans, investigations, surveys, structures, integrated systems and equipment; supports engineering with deploying and adhering to common engineering work processes throughout the contract
  • Participate in one or more of the following:
    • System Requirements & Design:Gather and analyze stakeholder requirements to identify system gaps, propose new systems, and adapt existing systems for new requirements and capabilities
    • Documentation & Verification:Develop and verify specifications, statements of work, calculations, and engineering technical documentation from various sources
    • Engineering Support Services: Provide systems level thinking and engineering for procurements, installation, safety, and operations, including preparing studies, reports, cost estimates, and maintenance approaches and procedures
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interface with engineering, operations, and project management teams to ensure systems readiness and to coordinate maintenance activities
    • Analysis: Participate in anomaly investigations and causal analyses to identify and resolve issues
    • Communication: Present and communicate technical systems information to appropriate stakeholders which could include peers, BNH management, AF client, and/or customers
  • It is a condition of employment to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering from an ABET accredited university plus a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a related environment

NOTE: This posting is specifically for those engineers with less than 5 years’ engineering experience

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network
  • Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical work experience in relevant types of engineering such as systems startups, field engineer, test operations, design, plant operations/maintenance in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants or other engineering firms.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with flexibility to accomplish mission objectives
  • Strong communication skills (including verbal and written) including the ability to convey complex technical information effectively to a broad audience
  • Demonstrated experience successfully building relationships with team across engineering and craft workforce
  • Strong organizational skills to track and facilitate progress on projects
  • Demonstrated proactiveness and initiative to drive to results
  • Exhibits strong level of technical curiosity and desire to seek understanding
  • Active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance
