Job Summary

The Caregiver’s primary responsibility is to provide support and assistance to residents with daily activities of living ranging from bathing, grooming, companionship, preparing and cooking meals, feeding, cleaning, and administering medications, in addition to tasks designated by the Team Lead.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living including but not limited to bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, ambulation, transferring, and feeding.
  • Allows and encourages residents to do as much on their own as possible to support independence.
  • Understands and adheres to the Resident Rights (RCW-70.129) Maintains Residents Rights by ensuring; quality care, monitoring others, health, safety and welfare, residents behaviors, reporting necessary changes following care/service plans, and reporting violations to upper management.
  • Administer medications to residents as specifically directed by physician’s orders.
  • Exhibits an understanding of and follows safe medication administration policies and procedures.
  • Reads the daily communication log at the beginning of each shift, documents in the communication log at the end of each shift on each resident and clearly communicates any duties left for the next shift.
  • Documents in a timely manner: medication administration, incidents, observations, visitors, leisure activities, changes in resident’s physical and/or behavioral condition, and promptly reports changes and concerns to manager.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly environment for the residents. Performs general housekeeping and follows cleaning schedules for residents’ laundry, bedrooms, dining area, living space, bathrooms, kitchen, and other areas.
  • Prepares and cooks meals for residents.
  • Communicates when medications, supplies, food, and household items are running low on inventory.
  • Follows proper procedures in emergency situations and responds promptly and positively to resident requests for assistance.
  • Follows and assists in administrating therapeutic plans and activities, such as physical exercise, occupational arts and crafts, recreational games, and educational opportunities that are tailored to each resident.
  • Knows the location of each resident and notifies the manager immediately if unable to locate a resident.
  • Encourages teamwork through positive and cooperative interactions with co-workers.
  • Attends mandatory trainings and meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality with resident and employee information.
  • Always conduct yourself and the business so as not to detract from, or to reflect negatively on the reputation of the company.
  • Obtain and maintain current required certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

  • Capability of following oral and written instructions.
  • The ability to read and understand documents such as instructions, training and procedure manuals, negotiated care plans/service agreements, and safety rules.

  • The ability to observe and identify concerns and problems in a timely manner.
  • Understand and speak English well enough to be able to respond appropriately to emergency situations and be able to read, understand and implement resident negotiated care plans/service agreements.
  • Must be capable of using own judgement and initiate in daily duties.
  • Good time management to complete assigned responsibilites each shift.
  • Has a familiarity and willingness to work with the elderly population.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and patient towards residents and family members.
  • Be a positive team player with co-workers.
  • A clean, professional, courteous manner and appearance.
  • Appropriate phone etiquette.
  • The ability to calculate figures and amounts.
  • Have the knowledge and ability to use Excel, Word, email, online training programs, and clinical software.
  • Capable of assisting in the care of residents, which might include lifting requirements up to 50 lbs.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stand, walk, kneel and/or bend for periods of up to twelve hours per shift. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to regularly talk, hear, and see. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment

The work environment described here is an example of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.


  • Floor surfaces vary from hard surfaces to carpets.
  • Fast pace that are typical for a senior living home or community.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

Other Occupational Exposures

Exposure to blood/body fluids possible. Bloodborne pathogens require the physical abilities necessary to clean spills that may occur in this type of environment.


Minimum Required Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Must be able to speak English proficiently.
  • Obtain Home Care Aide Certification within 200 days of the date of hire


Additional Requirements

  • Tuberculosis certificate as required by State.
  • Valid First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
  • Food Handlers Certification
  • Criminal Background check cleared.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
