Lead ASME Code Welder-Fabricator
Job Description
Job DescriptionStep Into a Lead Role Building Precision Metal Systems
Picture yourself walking into a bright, well-equipped, 100,000 sq. ft. fabrication facility in Poughkeepsie, NY. By mid-morning, you’ve reviewed a complex print set, verified weld symbols, and set up a jig for a stainless assembly headed to a biotech customer. After lunch, you’re qualifying a code weld, collaborating with quality to dial in parameters, and coaching an apprentice on TIG technique. This is a day in the life at Hatfield Metal Fabrication, Inc.
We’re a full-service shop specializing in laser cutting, CNC machining, waterjet and plasma cutting, ASME tank fabrication, and powder coating. Our work spans biotech equipment, structural frames, custom OEM components, and sanitary stainless assemblies—high-mix, fast-paced, and always focused on quality.
What You’ll Do
- Execute high-tolerance welding and fabrication across carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum using TIG and MIG processes.
- Confidently interpret blueprints, GD&T, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings to plan and build complex assemblies with minimal supervision.
- Fit, tack, and fabricate complex weldments; design and set up jigs and fixtures to ensure repeatability.
- Inspect your own work to internal standards and customer specifications; support quality documentation as needed.
- Participate in ASME code procedures and welder qualifications; support pressure-vessel and sanitary work when required.
- Partner with engineers and the quality team to troubleshoot, refine processes, and elevate build quality.
- Mentor junior welders and apprentices, sharing best practices in layout, sequencing, and technique.
What You Bring
- 5–10 years of hands-on welding and fabrication in a job shop or manufacturing environment.
- Mastery of TIG and MIG; ability to weld flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
- Strong understanding of fabrication tolerances, layout, and measuring tools (tape, calipers, squares, etc.).
- Experience with ASME-certified work, stainless fabrication, and custom builds in a high-mix setting.
- Physical ability to stand for the shift and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable, self-directed, and meticulous about fit-up, appearance, and sound welds.
Preferred Extras
- ASME Section VIII and/or AWS D1.1/D1.6 background.
- Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Familiarity with ERP or work-order tracking systems.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly pay aligned with your experience and certifications.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance.
- 401(k) with employer match.
- Paid time off and holidays.
- Training and advancement opportunities within a fast-growing company.
