Role OverviewThe Engineer I supports the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that support analytical capabilities and business intelligence across the organization. This position is developing expertise in modern cloud data platforms and programming, while ensuring data quality, security, and compliance within a regulated environment. This role will apply best practices, contribute data governance initiatives, and support our data architecture vision in alignment with organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient ETL/ELT data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform datasets from multiple sources.
  • Implement data ingestion pipelines from various sources including API endpoints (REST, GraphQL), handling data in multiple formats (JSON, XML), and establishing efficient interfaces between systems.
  • Monitor data pipeline and query performance through best practices for performance tuning, partitioning, and clustering to ensure reliability and scalability.
  • Develop and maintain data models for structured and unstructured datasets following established data lake and medallion architectures to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and optimal performance.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security through validation and monitoring frameworks; assist with data governance initiatives and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, AI/ML teams, and business units to understand data needs and translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Create and maintain documentation for data engineering processes, workflows, systems, and data architecture following established standards.
  • Maintain GxP compliance for our Data Analytics capabilities ensuring data integrity through our Validation Lifecycle process.


Experience & Skills and Work Environment Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or related role.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
  • Proficiency in AWS Data Lake and S3 technology.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript and SQL.
  • Experience with data lake architecture and data processing frameworks.
  • Knowledge of API authentication protocols (e.g., OAuth, API keys) and data formats (JSON, XML).
  • Proven ability to develop complex queries and optimize database performance.
  • Experience with data quality standards and governance frameworks.
  • Experience with source control tools such as Git and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements (GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, FDA regulations) preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory data systems (LIMS, ELN) and manufacturing data systems (MES, Historian, PCS) preferred.
  • Knowledge of data governance best practices in cloud environments.
  • Understanding of business intelligence tools and analytics platforms.


Work Environment

  • Primarily desk-based, generally in an office or home office setting.
  • May involve extended periods of sitting and computer use.
  • May be required to work after-hours for IT emergencies or maintenance window activities.
