Join our team as a Trailer Mechanic, where you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of a variety of trailers, including RGN, Low Boys, Detachables, flatbeds, and step decks. You will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and repair ABS systems, and conduct DOT inspections. The role also involves diagnosing electrical issues, engine repair, and minor welding tasks. You will work with both manual and automated systems and occasionally handle paperwork or administrative duties.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections of trailer frames, decks, cross-members, kingpins, landing gear, and suspension systems to identify wear or damage.
  • Repair structural components, including welding cracked frames, replacing wood or aluminum decking, and reinforcing stake pockets or rub rails.
  • Service braking systems, including air lines, chambers, slack adjusters, drums, and ABS components.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues, such as lighting, wiring harnesses, connectors, and 7-way plugs.
  • Maintain tires and wheels, including mounting, balancing, replacing, and checking torque and alignment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance such as lubrication, torque checks, and component replacements to prevent breakdowns.
  • Conduct DOT/FHWA inspections and ensure trailers meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Document repairs and maintenance in work orders or fleet management systems.
  • Drive to pick up parts as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of experience working on trailers, trucks, and small motors.
  • Experience with air brakes, air suspensions, ABS, hydraulics, and tires.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Familiarity with fleet maintenance and preventative maintenance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with small engine repair is a plus.
  • Welding skills are a plus.
  • Experience with automated maintenance systems is a plus.
  • Willingness to train on state inspections.

Work Environment

This position requires working in a shop environment with steel toes required. You may need to go in and out of the shop, so dress accordingly. The role is on the first shift starting at 7 am and ending around 3:30-4 pm. Occasionally, you may need to drive a pickup truck to retrieve parts. Candidates are expected to bring their own tools, and uniforms will be provided.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carlisle, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
