Senior EO/IR Engineer/Scientist
Job Description
Job Description
deciBel Research has an immediate opening for an Electro-Optical/ Infrared Engineer/Scientist in Huntsville, AL
Position Description:
deciBel Research, Inc. is seeking a Senior EO/IR Engineer/Scientist to be technical subject matter expert supporting the Signatures Integrated Product Team (IPT).
The Senior Engineer/Scientist will lead a diverse group of scientists and engineers to provide a comprehensive "toolbox" of software models that represent signature phenomena as viewed by Missile Defense System (MDS) sensors. Emphasis is in the Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) sensor phenomena, including rocket motor combustion effects, ascent heating physics, heat transfer on the missile and its associated objects in the exo-atmosphere, and re-entry phenomena, including flowfield modeling and wake/ablation characteristics. The objective of the effort is to determine how/when the different phenomenology models interact, allowing for well-defined interfaces between/among component models. These models will run in an off-line digital environment (non-real-time), but the team will also examine ways to provide relevant data from those models to be used in a real-time context.
The Senior Engineer/Scientist will evaluate the most effective tools for a given launch/re-entry event and plan how the component tools will run non-real-time or real-time, sequentially or in parallel, to achieve the desired result. The candidate will present the tradeoffs (technical cost/benefit) among the tools and propose an approach to the company and government leadership in a clear and concise manner.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Math, Physics, or related fields.
Experience Requirements:
The successful candidate must possess at least 8 years' experience working with NASA and/or DoD rocket/missile systems, including an emphasis on material properties of heat transfer and EO/IR absorptivity/reflectivity. Experience with MDS weapons and seeker systems is a plus.
- Experience in the development of technical reports and briefing materials.
- Experience with real-time and non-real-time models and simulation. Differences in how models are approached and integrated in the real-time vs. non-real-time environment.
- Experience with EO/IR signatures models, simulations, and their testing.
- Excellent communication skills required as a team lead who presents plans, results, details, and issues to company leadership and the DoD government customer.
- Significant organizational skills required, both writing and presenting materials orally.
Special Skills Desired:
- Experience with Missile Defense System (MDS) elements and their primary functions.
- Experience with MDS simulation standards, requirements development, testing, and verification.
- Experience with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and DoD interface control documents.
- Programming experience with C++, Java, Python, MATLAB, Fortran. Linux server systems as well as Windows O/S programming.
Applicant selected must have an active security clearance. Must be a U.S. Citizen.
