Job Title: Field Service Technician

Job Description

The Field Service Technician manages the execution of a water treatment service contract at an industrial client site. This hands-on role combines field work, laboratory analysis, and technical troubleshooting to ensure reliable operation of water systems and related equipment. The position requires regular travel to customer locations, strong documentation practices, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a heavy industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the execution of the water treatment service contract at the client site, ensuring all service commitments are met.
  • Collect water samples safely from industrial systems, including hot water samples, and perform laboratory analysis to assess water quality.
  • Conduct field walk-downs to inspect instrumentation, dosing systems, and related equipment, identifying issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Calibrate water measurement equipment and field instrumentation to ensure accurate readings and reliable system performance.
  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on mechanical and water treatment equipment, applying basic troubleshooting skills to resolve issues.
  • Travel to customer locations to perform scheduled service work and support ongoing site operations.
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation, including monthly expense reports, daily service call reports, weekly tracking, and route completion reports.
  • Maintain detailed records of all service visits, documenting technical issues, test results, work performed, and parts used.
  • Prioritize workload in coordination with the manager to maintain an efficient, cost-effective preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Independently execute lock installation projects and other assigned field tasks, ensuring work meets safety and quality standards.
  • Respond to emergency service calls as directed, including occasional nights, weekends, or holidays, to support critical operations.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customer personnel, representing the company professionally at all times.
  • Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders about service findings, recommendations, and action plans.
  • Handle chemicals and water treatment products safely in accordance with procedures and site requirements.
  • Use Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel to manage schedules, prepare reports, and communicate service information.

Essential Skills

  • 2–4 years of experience in an industrial environment, ideally with at least 2–3 years in an industrial facility.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial water chemistry and water testing.
  • Experience working in heavy industry environments and comfort working around industrial equipment and hot water samples.
  • Proficiency in instrumentation and field water monitoring, including calibration and basic maintenance.
  • Practical knowledge of dosing systems and mechanical equipment used in water treatment applications.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical, instrumentation, and water treatment systems.
  • Basic electrical skills relevant to field service and equipment maintenance.
  • Utilities knowledge, including basic understanding of boilers and cooling towers.
  • Ability to handle chemicals safely and follow established procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel for communication and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customer personnel.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong drive to deliver results and meet service commitments.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Water testing experience in industrial environments is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience supporting water treatment systems in heavy industry settings.
  • Water Treatment Certification is preferred and considered an asset.
  • Experience working with utilities such as boilers and cooling towers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple service calls and documentation requirements.
  • Experience responding to emergency service calls and working flexible hours when needed.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Roxana, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.67 - $33.67/hr.
