Purpose

The Front-end Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the front-end team of Goods Foods Grocery, ensuring efficient processes and exceptional customer service. This role involves leading and developing a team, setting operational standards, and fostering a positive shopping experience. The Front-End Manager also contributes to Good Foods Grocery and Commonwealth Autisms growth by aligning departmental functions with company goals, maintaining high-quality standards, and supporting community initiatives.

General Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to and enforce GFG and Commonwealth Autism policies and procedures.
  • Monitor work email during business hours for timely responses.
  • Support GFGs goals and community involvement.
  • Communicate project needs and priorities clearly before the end of each shift.
  • Foster a respectful and productive work environment, setting a positive example for the team.
  • Ensure all duties are covered during absences and proactively suggest improvements.
  • Work toward leadership growth and contribute to the overall success of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership:

  • Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising staff.
  • Organize schedules to ensure adequate coverage. Prepare daily plans for store staff with delegation of responsibilities and planned timing of breaks.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and stay informed on industry trends through seminars and conferences.
  • Allocate 10% of time to support Commonwealth Autism initiatives, including interns and graduates.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) in the absence of the store or assistant manager.
  • Proactively identify store needs, delegate tasks to employees on shift, and ensure completion.

Quality Assurance:

  • Lead by example in providing excellent customer service.
  • Inspect incoming shipments for quality and freshness, ensuring proper rotation.
  • Maintain sanitation and hygiene standards.

Customer Service:

  • Interact with customers, providing assistance and product information.
  • Enhance customer experience through feedback and engagement.
  • Keep department section organized and visually appealing.

Merchandising & Marketing:

  • Set merchandising standards and monitor department resets.
  • Ensure accurate signage and displays, including promotional demos.
  • Maintain cleanliness and implement a deep cleaning schedule.
  • Collaborate with other departments on promotions and cross-merchandising.

Inventory Management:

  • Conduct regular inventory checks to ensure stock levels meet demand.
  • Implement effective waste reduction and rotation practices.
  • Negotiate with vendors and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • Adjust product mix and ordering based on sales data and customer feedback.
  • Prepare for special events and promotions with timely inventory planning.

Specific Responsibilities to Front End Management:

Checkout Operations:

  • Oversee cash register and checkout equipment operations.
  • Support cashiers to minimize customer wait times.
  • Ensure accurate handling of cash and electronic transactions.

Queue Management:

  • Monitor and address customer queue delays, ensuring efficient checkout.

Training and Development:

  • Provide ongoing staff training on customer service, cash handling, and product knowledge.
  • Stay informed on product details, promotions, and sales.
  • Support staff and provide ongoing reinforcing and/or redirecting feedback. Act as a leader among the management team members in staff development.

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to stand for extended periods, as much as 8 hrs. a day with breaks.
  • Ability to lift stand or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to read at 20/20 vision natural or corrected to be able to read small, detailed labels and POS directions.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a cash register and handle items.
