Shift: 6a-2:30p; Monday - Friday
Job Summary: Under the supervision of the food service director, organizes and verifies patient diets and menus to provide accurate count for food production.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Processes computer diet orders accurately and in a timely manner.
Prepares hold trays promptly and accurately when ordered.
Uses appropriate customer service skills when speaking on the telephone and delivery tray to patients' room.
Calculates special diets accurately.
Taking orders correctly modified prior to sending for patients identified with food allergies.
Maintains accurate meal counts for various areas to document in records.
Maintains work area in a neat, clean and orderly manner.
Participates in departmental performance improvement activities.
Demonstrates skills necessary to provide for menu and tray preparation to meet cultural needs and age requirements of patients.
Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
Observes infection control and sanitation practices at all times.
Trains new dietary employees in department procedures as directed.
Responds in a courteous manner when special items are requested for patients and if specific items aren’t available, offers alternative, acceptable suggestions.
Uses courtesy when working with patients, families, visitors and staff.

- Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
- Completes annual education requirements.
- Assist in room service procedures or any other assignment directed to do.
- Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and CMS regulations.
- Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
- Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized time system correctly.
- Completes competency tests and returns in a timely fashion.
- Attends annual review and attends departmental in-services.
- Attends mandatory in-service meetings and completes required tests as directed.
- Participates in the department’s quality improvement (QI) activities.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the mission statement of the department.
- Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.
- Attends committee, CQI and management meetings, as appropriate.
- Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control.
Regulatory Requirements:
- High School graduate or equivalent is preferred.
- Previous hospital and food service experience, preferred.
