The Childrens Ministry Assistant works closely with the Childrens Ministry Director to facilitate the Williamsburg Community Chapels Childrens Ministry Weekday and Sunday morning programs, assisting the Childrens Ministry Director and supervising the Childcare Leads and volunteers.
Qualifications
The qualified candidate will profess and live a life that reflects a personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission of the Williamsburg Community Chapel. He or she should have a passion for preparing, challenging, and inspiring children and their families to a life of Christian discipleship.
The successful candidate will have experience or be teachable in leading and training part-time childcare workers and volunteers in a large-church environment. Demonstrated success in developing and executing ministry programming is beneficial, as are excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate the Gospel faithfully and creatively to children. The qualified candidate will have experience relating to serving both believing and non-believing children and their parents. The successful candidate will possess a desire to communicate with and serve congregants, staff and volunteers. A bachelors degree with two or more years of vocational or volunteer experience in a ministry environment or commensurate experience is helpful.
This position utilizes administrative skills such as planning, organizing, promoting, implementing, and leading. The successful candidate will possess a moderate level of computer literacy, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office, and will have the ability to learn and use job-specific software tools.
Essential Functions
- Support the Childrens Ministry Director in the implementation of Sunday morning programming to include managing curriculum, securing and communicating with volunteers, and securing programming needs such as supplies, technology, and facility use.
- Assist the Children's Ministry Director in ministering to children and their families through programs and one-on-one discipleship and mentoring.
- Under the direction of the Childrens Ministry Director, create and implement a weekday childrens program that engages its attendees and their families with biblical truths.
- Under the direction of the Children's Ministry Director, develop, implement, and teach biblically based and age-appropriate curriculum for ministry programs.
- Create a welcoming, hospitable, and warm environment for children and families who participate in all Childrens Ministry programming.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, training, scheduling, and supervision to Childrens Ministry Childcare Leads/Staff and volunteers.
- Develop relationships with families, assisting the Childrens Ministry Director in overseeing communication to parents and development of resources for parenting that will assist them in discipling their children.
- Take responsibility for the orientation of all new Childcare Leads and matters of safety and child protection, including annual training regarding the Chapels Child Protection Policy.
- Work with the Childrens Ministry Director and other ministry staff to assist with Sunday and special event preparation relating to Childrens Ministry.
- Work with the Worship Buddies team to provide opportunities for children with special needs to participate in our weekday programs.
- Uphold the Chapels Governing and Squaring the Church documents.

The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, sometimes for lengthy periods of time; walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This role includes a moderate level of physical activity, including occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. and performing the functions associated with event coordination (for example, bending, stooping, long periods of standing, etc.). The employee is regularly required to lift children up to 40 pounds. The employee is frequently required to sit on the floor and/or in low chairs, to stoop, bend, and/or to kneel. A full range of motion is required. The employee is required to perform repetitive tasks requiring fine motor skills, such as typing and using a computer mouse.
This position operates in a professional office environment as well as an event environment, which may include classrooms and large event spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, sound systems and video equipment. This position travels occasionally for retreats and conferences.
