Reports To: General Manager

Job Overview:

The Refinish Technician’s primary responsibility is to provide an exceptional customer experience by meticulously refinishing vehicles to restore them to pre-accident condition. They work closely with team members to ensure quality repairs are completed within established timelines, following both company standards and insurance guidelines. The Refinish Technician plays a key role in achieving the repair facility’s KPIs by consistently adhering to processes and maintaining high-quality craftsmanship.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure consistent execution of SOPs and company guidelines.
  • Provide excellent customer service and positive energy when interacting with customers and team members.
  • Refinish vehicles according to insurance guidelines, quality standards, and factory specifications.
  • Inspect body and prep repairs for deficiencies; advise the production supervisor when needed.
  • Complete Repair Order (RO) items and maintain high-quality standards.
  • Correct paint deficiencies through sanding and polishing.
  • Ensure proper formulations, top coating, and curing following OEM standards.
  • Maintain efficient material costs aligned with company KPIs.
  • Complete surface preparation, vehicle masking, priming, and top coating.
  • Mix paint for accurate color matching and apply coatings.
  • Notify Estimating Team of any additional damage found during refinishing.
  • Assist in recommending and maintaining new equipment.
  • Track vehicle status and help resolve delays to ensure timely delivery.
  • Use required safety equipment and follow Health & Safety guidelines.
  • Adhere to hazardous waste disposal and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Communicate with team members and customers regarding repairs.
  • Continuously update skills through training and workshops.
  • Complete the Quality Control (QC) checklist before moving vehicles to the next department.
  • Keep production areas clean and organized, with end-of-day cleanup.
  • Follow daily production schedules and participate in team meetings.

Required Skills/Abilities and Physical Requirements:

  • Knowledge of manufacturers’ repair/refinishing processes and procedures.
  • Ability to use vendor materials and supplies efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Commitment to continued learning through I-Car/industry-related training.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all work performed.
  • Ability to interpret work scopes from vehicle estimates or work orders.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of vehicle repair practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Frequently required to bend, crouch, reach, handle tools, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Physical ability to bend, crouch, and perform manual labor when preparing and refinishing vehicles.
  • Ability to work in a noisy, fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to chemicals and fumes.
  • Must wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Education and/or Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of previous experience in a collision repair facility refinish role.
  • Paint Maker Certification preferred.
  • Vocational training in automotive is a plus.
  • Drivers License required.
