JOB SUMMARY:
The Store Manager oversees daily operations of the retail store, focusing on both the production room and sales floor to ensure an optimal shopping experience for customers. Key responsibilities include customer service, inventory management, budgeting, and maintaining safety and housekeeping standards. The Manager also defines roles for team members, sets performance expectations, provides training, and offers consistent feedback to ensure accountability and operational efficiency.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for managing sales, profits, and the marketing plan of the store, evaluating performance against targets and inventory levels, and controlling operational costs within budget.
- Ensures compliance with merchandising plans for effective displays and space allocation to optimize sales.
- Conducts interviews, training, supervision, and evaluations of staff, maintaining employee confidentiality, and holding regular store meetings focused on safety and communication.
- Ensures high standards of customer service and responsiveness to management assistance requests.
- Supports Goodwill’s mission by employing and supervising individuals facing employment barriers, training clients/trainees with vocational staff collaboration.
- Accurately handles donated assets, verifies merchandise received, and adjusts pricing as per company guidelines.
- Completes daily, weekly, and monthly reports with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
- Controls inventory and reduces losses from errors and theft, implementing preventive actions as necessary.
- Ensures operational continuity in the Store Manager’s absence and maintains the security of cash and receipts, coordinating daily bank deposits.
- Directs and monitors Assistant Managers and Customer Service Managers in their responsibilities.
- Attends all required meetings and training sessions, maintaining professional development.
- Represents the company within the community, promoting the store through engagement with local business leaders and participation in events, in coordination with executive management.
- Observe retail competitors’ practices and evaluate the impact of the competition on Goodwill operations.
- Performs all essential responsibilities common to all Goodwill store management positions, i.e.
- Performs cash register transactions.
- Tends to any after-hours emergencies that occur in the store.
- Addresses facility maintenance and security issues.
- Monitors the proper use of store equipment to minimize the need for repairs and replacement.
- Performs all functions of the opening and closing of the store.
- Directs and performs housekeeping and recovery duties.
- Ensures compliance with all safety rules and regulations through enforcement and training.
- Completes and submits necessary forms and reports within 24 hours of any incident.
- Provide excellent customer service skill.
- Able to address employee and customer concerns.
- Able to work the full scope of operation hours.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 21 years of age.
- Must be able to work any shift.
- Experienced in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English orally and in writing.
- Have a valid resident state driver’s license with a safe driving record.
- Must have a cell phone.
- Eligible for a positive outcome on required resident state criminal conviction background check.
- Maintain appropriate requirements (including current automobile insurance and license plates) for legal vehicle operation and a vehicle for store-related travel.
- Must maintain Goodwill’s Drug-Free Workplace.

- Pass criminal record and MVR.
- Driver's license and insured vehicle required.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Accredited associate’s degree or equivalent. Experience may be substituted for education on a two-years to one-year basis. Training is over a period of up to and including six months
EXPERIENCE
- Five years of management-level experience in retail sales or a related environment,
- Minimum of two years’ experience interviewing/hiring for entry-level positions and conducting employee performance management, including separations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Climbing, balancing, talking, hearing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, and seeing.
- Lifting/Carrying: Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Pushing/Pulling: Frequent pushing/Pulling up to 100 lbs.
