Lead ServiceNow Developer

My name is Bill Stevens, and I have a new full time Lead ServiceNow Developer opportunity available for a major firm located in Troy Hills, New Jersey that could be of interest to you, please review my specification below. The work schedule will be hybrid, three to four days a week onsite in the firms’ offices and either one to two days remote based on a five-day work week.

This is NOT a remote role.

The ideal candidate should also possess a green card or be of citizenship. No Visa entanglements and no H1-B holding company submittals.

The firm is seeking a highly experienced Lead ServiceNow Developer to step into a critical role during a period of team transition. You will serve as the primary technical lead for our ServiceNow environment, taking ownership of a mature instance previously managed by a multi-person team. You will be responsible for stabilizing the platform, reverse-engineering existing logic without immediate access to historical knowledge holders and driving forward-looking development.

Responsibilities:

Full Stack Ownership: You will work closely with the platform owner and lead administrator to manage the application in its entirety, spanning maintenance, troubleshooting, and new feature development.

Diverse Footprint: Our instance is not limited to IT; it includes robust deployments of IRM (GRC) and HRSD, alongside standard ITSM and CMDB structures.

Core Responsibilities:

Environment Stabilization & Discovery

Conduct a rapid assessment of the current state of the instance to understand existing customizations, business rules, and workflows.

As needed, be capable of reverse-engineering undocumented configurations and establish a baseline of technical documentation for the new team.

As needed, troubleshoot legacy issues and stabilize performance following the team transition.

Development & Engineering:

Design and develop solutions across the platform, utilizing Client Scripts, Business Rules, UI Policies, UI Actions, and ACLs.

Manage and maintain complex API integrations (REST/SOAP) between ServiceNow and third-party enterprise tools.

Oversee the health and data integrity of the CMDB.

Module Management (ITSM, IRM, HRSD):

Maintain and enhance the ITSM suite (Incident, Problem, Change, Request).

Provide specialized support for Integrated Risk Management (IRM/GRC) and Human Resources Service Delivery (HRSD) modules.

As needed, configure Service Portal widgets and pages to ensure a seamless user experience.

Leadership & Mentorship:

Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) while the organization forms a permanent support structure.

Guide and mentor junior developers or administrators joining the newly formed team.

Qualifications:

Required Technical Skills:

5+ years of hands-on ServiceNow development and administration experience.

Proven track record of working independently in complex environments without heavy supervision.

Deep expertise in JavaScript, Glide API, HTML, CSS, and Angular/Service Portal.

Strong experience with Integration Hub, REST/SOAP APIs, and ETL processes.

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex workflows and identify root causes in heavily customized instances.

Module Experience:

Expert-level knowledge of ITSM and CMDB.

High Priority: Functional and technical experience with IRM (Governance, Risk, and Compliance).

High Priority: Functional and technical experience with HRSD (HR Service Delivery).

Soft Skills:

Forensic Mindset: The ability to look at existing code and understand why it was written that way without being able to ask the original author.

Resilience: Comfortable working in a fluid environment where processes are being rebuilt.

Communication: Ability to translate complex technical findings to non-technical leadership.

Preferred Certifications:

ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD)

Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) – IRM or HRSD

ITIL V3/V4 Foundation
