POSITION DESCRIPTION & EXPECTATIONS

1. Job Title & Position Information

Job Title: Telecom Manager
Reports To: David Portillo, Operations Manager

Employment Type: Regular
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., with flexibility as required
Compensation: $80,000 - $110,000

2. Position Summary

The Telecom Manager oversees all telecommunications operations, infrastructure, field activities, and project execution across the organization. This role manages telecom systems end‐to‐end—including voice, data, fiber, wireless, and structured cabling—and leads installation and maintenance teams to ensure reliable communication networks for all company locations and projects. Responsibilities include supervising technicians, coordinating with vendors and subcontractors, managing project schedules and budgets, reviewing telecom designs, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and experience managing telecom projects in fast‐paced construction and infrastructure environments.

2.1 Benefits

PTO is accrued every pay period and increases with your tenure at the company.

Salaried Employees:

  • 90 days – 1 year: 10 paid days (2 weeks) + 5 additional unpaid days
  • 1 – 5 years: 15 paid days (3 weeks) + 5 additional unpaid days
  • 6 – 10 years: 20 paid days (4 weeks) + 5 additional unpaid days
  • 11+ years: 25 paid days (5 weeks) + 5 additional unpaid days

Hourly Employees:

  • 1 – 10 years: 10 paid days (2 weeks) + 5 additional unpaid days
  • 10+ years: 15 paid days (3 weeks) + 5 additional unpaid days

Paid Holidays

Additional Half‐Day Holidays (Salaried Employees Only):

3. Core Responsibilities

3.1 Telecom Operations, Infrastructure & System Management

  • Manage daily operations of the telecommunications department, encompassing voice, data, fiber, wireless, and network communication systems.
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades of telecom infrastructure.
  • Monitor system performance and implement improvements to maximize reliability, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Support design and implementation of new telecom technologies, solutions, and modernization initiatives.

3.2 Project Leadership, Coordination & Execution

  • Lead and supervise telecom technicians, subcontractors, and project teams to ensure on‐time, high‐quality execution.
  • Review project plans, technical drawings, and specifications to determine telecom requirements and scope.
  • Develop project schedules, budgets, resource plans, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with general contractors, engineers, clients, and internal teams to align project expectations.
  • Perform job‐site visits to monitor installation quality, field performance, and safety compliance.
  • Manage inventory, materials, and equipment required for telecom projects.

3.3 Compliance, Safety Standards & Technical Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with industry codes, telecom standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Evaluate and select telecom vendors, equipment options, and service providers.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, reports, schedules, as‐builts, and updates for management.
  • Verify that all installations meet quality‐control requirements and client specifications.

3.4 Problem Solving, Risk Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify risks, delays, and technical issues; propose and implement solutions promptly.
  • Improve workflows, documentation processes, and operational efficiency across telecom projects.
  • Support continuous improvement of telecom systems, service quality, and team performance.
  • Participate in cross‐department initiatives enhancing technology, safety, and communication standards.

4. Short‐Term Expectations (First 30 Days)

  • Learn all existing telecom systems, infrastructure, and project workflows.
  • Demonstrate consistent communication, accurate reporting, and proactive follow‐up.
  • Build strong working relationships with technicians, subcontractors, and leadership.
  • Review current project plans, schedules, job‐site conditions, and documentation requirements.
  • Begin managing assigned portions of telecom projects with guidance.
  • Understand safety requirements, equipment standards, and vendor coordination processes.

5. Long‐Term Plan & Growth Objectives

  • Manage multiple telecom projects independently from planning to closeout.
  • Improve system reliability, uptime, and documentation accuracy across all telecom operations.
  • Strengthen department leadership, technician development, and field quality standards.
  • Enhance vendor relationships and improve equipment selection and procurement processes.
  • Champion continuous‐improvement initiatives across telecom processes and field operations.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for future telecom infrastructure and modernization efforts.

6. Weekly & Monthly Deliverables Plan

6.1 Daily & Weekly Deliverables (Ongoing)

  • Daily: Provide updates on project status, risks, field progress, and blockers.
  • Daily: Ensure technicians follow safety standards, documentation protocols, and quality requirements.
  • Weekly: Submit weekly telecom operations summary to Management Team.
  • Weekly: Confirm next‐week priorities, resource needs, and project deadlines.
  • Weekly: Maintain updated inventory, equipment logs, and project schedules.

6.2 Monthly Deliverables & Review

  • Monthly KPI review: system performance, project timelines, documentation quality, safety compliance, and team performance.
  • Monthly vendor review: evaluate vendor quality, responsiveness, equipment reliability, and service performance.
  • Monthly update of long‐term project plans, budgets, risks, and resource requirements.
  • Monthly proposal of improvements related to telecom systems, workflows, or quality control.

7. Work Expectations & Availability

  • Must ask questions immediately when technical requirements, drawings, or project instructions are unclear—no assumptions.
  • Ability to manage several concurrent projects in a fast‐paced, deadline‐driven environment.
  • Additional hours may be required depending on field operations and project deadlines.
  • Maintain professionalism, customer service excellence, and clear communication at all times.

8. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, IT, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in telecommunications, including project or team leadership.
  • Strong technical knowledge in fiber optics, structured cabling, VoIP, wireless networks, and low‐voltage systems.
  • Experience delivering telecom projects in construction or infrastructure environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Proficiency with telecom testing tools, project management software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem‐solving skills.

10. Work Environment

Hybrid role with office‐based collaboration and regular visits to field project sites.
May require travel, site walks, and coordination in active construction environments.

11. Performance Review & Continuation of Engagement

This consulting engagement is performance‐based. Continuation of work, expansion of responsibilities, compensation changes, and any future discretionary immigration support (including work visa sponsorship) are contingent upon sustained performance, measurable deliverables, and business needs. The consultant will be evaluated bi‐weekly based on the daily/weekly deliverables and KPI expectations described above.
