The City of O'Fallon, MO is looking to hire Engineering Interns in our Water and Sewer Department for the Summer of 2026. Are you looking for an internship position where you'll use and build on your water distribution system knowledge in a municipal setting? Our Interns earn a competitive wage of $23.10 hourly.
As part of our Water and Sewer Department, you will be responsible for performing routine and complex administrative and technical work. Generally, your schedule will be daytime hours Monday through Friday.
Our Engineering Interns fill various roles within the Water and Sewer department. Some of the duties and responsibilities for Interns in these areas include:
- Assisting in the development of short and long range plans: gathers, interprets and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinates activities with other departments and agencies, as needed.
- Providing technical advice to supervisor.
- Analyzing data gathered, developing information and considering alternate methods of proceeding.
- Organizing and documenting findings of studies and preparing recommendations for implementation of new systems, procedures or organizational changes.
- Conferring with personnel concerns to assure smooth functioning of newly implemented systems or procedure.
- Preparing a variety of studies, reports, and related information for decision-making purposes; conducts research, analysis, and prepares recommendations regarding proposals for programs, grants, services, budget, equipment, etc.
- Reviews plans, specifications and estimates for construction projects.
- Assists in the preparation of Council Agenda items and purchase order requests.
- Assists in preparing bid documents, advertisements and addenda.
- Reviews shop drawings, submittals, certified payrolls and test reports.
- Pays invoices for contracting engineering farms; prepares spreadsheets and invoices.
- Meets with residents concerning projects during design and construction.
- Reviews operational and laboratory data at the plant for compliance with permit requirements and other regulations.
- Assists plant management and supervisory personnel with researching and purchasing capital and miscellaneous items.
- Other duties as assigned or required.
We're looking for someone who is currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and have obtained the status of at least junior, with a working knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a closely related field. This person should be someone who can be relied upon to accurately record and maintain records and possess strong communication skills.
