Job Description:
The System Engineer / Middleware Ops will be responsible for managing legacy middleware and application services to ensure stable, reliable operations across integrated systems. This role focuses on operating and supporting Oracle WebLogic-hosted services, maintaining system configurations, troubleshooting operational issues, and supporting integrations across batch, API, and data-exchange components. The System Engineer / Middleware Ops works closely with application, integration, and operations teams to maintain continuity of service.
Requirements:
- U.S Citizenship required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
- This position is remote but may require occasional onsite meetings in McLean, VA.
- You can be based out of following states: AZ, DC, FL, GA, OH, ME, MD, SC, TX, UT, VA, NC, OK, WV.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of experience in system engineering, middleware operations, or application support roles.
- Hands-on experience supporting Oracle WebLogic application servers.
- Experience supporting legacy applications built with JSP, Spring, Apache Struts, and Hibernate.
- Familiarity with HL7 interfaces and data-exchange workflows.
- Familiarity with IBM ODM in an operational or support context.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and operational discipline.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with technical teams.
- Ability to manage multiple issues and priorities in a production environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting mission-critical legacy systems.
- Experience coordinating with integration and application teams to resolve cross-system issues.
- Experience working in regulated or enterprise environments.
Responsibilities
Middleware and Application Operations:
- Operate and support middleware services hosted on Oracle WebLogic.
- Manage application configurations and runtime settings to ensure system stability.
Legacy Application Support:
- Support applications built using JSP, Spring, Apache Struts, and Hibernate.
- Assist with operational troubleshooting and remediation of application-level issues.
Integration and Data Exchange Support:
- Support integrations across batch processing, API interactions, and data-exchange components.
- Monitor and troubleshoot HL7-based interfaces and data flows.
Rules and Decision Services Awareness:
- Support operational aspects of systems utilizing IBM ODM.
- Coordinate with application teams to address runtime or configuration issues impacting rules execution.
Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
- Investigate and resolve middleware, application, and integration issues.
- Perform root-cause analysis and coordinate fixes with development and integration teams.
Configuration and Environment Management:
- Maintain environment-specific configurations and support deployment readiness activities.
- Ensure consistency across development, test, and production environments.
Documentation and Operational Readiness:
- Document system configurations, operational procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Support maintenance of runbooks and operational reference materials.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify recurring operational issues and recommend improvements to configurations or processes.
- Support efforts to improve reliability and maintainability of middleware services.
