Location:(Remote)
Working hours: Day 5x8-Hour (08:00 - 17:00)
Total hours: 40

Minimum Requirements:
1 year of Nursing or exposure to EMS.
1+ Registry data entry experience.
1+ ICD and AIS coding.

Required trauma registry experience.
1) AAAM/AIS (injury severity score) coding class (must participate and pass receiving
a certificate)
2) ICD 10 coding class
3) ATS trauma registry course
4) Must have experience using DI/ESO V5 trauma registry.

Preferred.
1) CAISS (certified abbreviated injury scale specialist)
2) Report Writer experience (using V5 registry)

Job Overview :
Trauma Clinical Data Analyst Specialist, reviews hospital records to locate all trauma activated patients and those injured patients not activated in the ED that meet State collection criteria. Trauma Clinical Data Specialist then collects comprehensive, accurate data relating to trauma patients by abstracting all trajectories of care, verify & update all information compiled & enter data into the State Trauma system in a concurrent manner, performs coding of injuries, procedures & causes of injuries using standard medical record references, specifically International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Tenth Revision codes, assign diagnoses Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) & ICD-10CM (Clinical Modification) codes & complete Injury Severity Scale (ISS) & other calculations for an average of seventeen (15) records per week. Provide quality assurance for clinical accuracy of registry data at all levels of care (capabilities of care). Participate in providing data related research as required. Serve as a trauma & clinical subject matter expert to non-clinical personnel. Participate in training activities.

Trauma Clinical Data Analyst Specialist is responsible for creating, building and verifying accuracy of reports, must be able to turn data into information, information into insight and insight into business decisions, as requested by the Trauma Coordinator, Administration, ACS and Trauma Re-verification and physician groups for quality improvement purposes, perform case audits and reviews to ensure accuracy of data. Downloads data to State registry for benchmarking data and TQIP National Data Bank. Assists in the planning of educational programs for health care providers and serves as an advocate for privacy and confidentiality of health information. Also, working closely with the Trauma Coordinator, coordinates follow-up information to referral hospitals and agencies Also performs other duties as assigned by the Trauma Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinates the collection data for reporting to groups including, but not limited to, the State of Montana Trauma Registry, TQIP, National Data Bank, Major Trauma Outcome Study, Joint Commission, Western Regional Trauma Advisory Committee, referral facilities and agencies for patient follow-up information.
  • Generates reports relative to patient care for inclusion into the monthly quality improvement report as needed for the Multidisciplinary Trauma Committee review.
  • Active participation with municipal and regional committees and organizations including, but not limited to, MT Hwy Patrol, Msla City Police Department, WRTAC.
  • Actively participates in the quarterly Western Regional Trauma Advisory Committee (WRTAC) by contacting members of upcoming meetings, maintaining current mailing log and correspondence, recording minutes for the WRTAC as well as subcommittee meetings, distributing minutes and handouts in a timely manner to members.
  • Establishes a networking relationship with other State Trauma Coordinators/Registrars to provide patient follow-up information and identify state registry needs.
  • Participates with all outreach meetings as requested which includes, but is not limited to: ED Medical Staff Committee, Regional Trauma Advisory Committee, Triage Subcommittee, CQI Subcommittee, Multidisciplinary Trauma Committee, Trauma Task Force Committee, Emergency Department Staff meeting.
  • Abstracts patient chart and enter daily trauma rounds information into the trauma registry database pertinent to trauma program quality improvement.
  • Communicates written and/or verbal registry information to the Trauma Coordinator as necessary to meets the goals of the program while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Completes the case finding process by developing tools to capture all injured patients for abstract and entry into the registry.
  • Coordinates an organized work environment by maintaining trauma supplies necessary for operation and ensuring cost effectiveness when ordering supplies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of procedures, injuries, complication-outcome codes necessary for developing and maintaining trauma registry record management system ensuring current information.
  • Develops and maintains outreach mailing lists and correspondence for pre-hospital, area facilities, RTAC mailings as well as any other requested mailing lists.
  • Establishes and follows procedures to ensure that accurate data is being abstracted and entered into the database.
  • Identifies, understands and supports Trauma Service policies including all Quality Improvement.
  • Maintains an 80% concurrent, 20% retrospective patient identification and data entry process.
  • Participates in all trauma service meetings. Maintains attendance rosters and signatures. Distributes copies of minutes and agendas for meetings to all committee members.
  • Responsible for arranging the room setup, catering and equipment reservations for educational courses.
  • Responsible for notifying instructors and participants of course logistics by written notification and distributes any pertinent paperwork or manuals within an appropriate time frame prior to a course date.
  • Provides clear, concise pertinent patient reports/information.
  • Responsible for evaluating new software as provided by the State of Montana EMS Bureau and vendor.
  • Assists the Trauma Coordinator with the coordination of trauma courses (Spring Fever and Rocky Mountain Rural Trauma Symposium) (i.e. establishing budget, contacting speakers, soliciting vendors, retrieving information for CCU/CME, development of the brochures/syllabus/handouts, tabulating course evaluations and recording and maintaining course registrations.
