Job Description

The Manager – Canyon Lanes oversees the full operations, administration, staffing, marketing, financial performance, and guest service experience of the bowling center, arcade, Class II gaming area, and food and beverage services. This role is responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating all bowling center activities to ensure profitability, operational efficiency, safety compliance, and a high-quality guest experience. The Manager leads all employees, manages facility and equipment maintenance, and develops strategies to maximize league play, open play, and group business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, organizes, and directs daily operations of Canyon Lanes, including bowling, arcade, Class II gaming, and food and beverage services.
  • Assigns work schedules, delegates responsibility areas, and ensures adequate staffing levels and employee coverage.
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates employees in guest service, operational tasks, safety practices, and performance requirements.
  • Develops and implements marketing strategies to maximize revenue, league participation, and open play, including collaboration with Morongo Casino Resort & Spa Marketing/Sales teams.
  • Conducts sales outreach to develop new business opportunities, retain existing leagues, and generate group event bookings.
  • Organizes and maintains bowling leagues, prepares communication materials, collects fees, and oversees prize distribution.
  • Books and coordinates private parties, corporate events, and group reservations.
  • Conducts regular inspections to ensure compliance with occupational, health, and safety regulations.
  • Ensures staff follow safe working practices and maintain knowledge of emergency procedures and safety protocols.
  • Works collaboratively with food and beverage operations, ensuring equipment functionality, staff training, proper alcohol service, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Promotes responsible alcohol service and ensures all alcohol-handling employees are properly certified.
  • Reviews operational expenses, financial reports, and monthly profit and loss statements; contributes to the development and oversight of the annual budget.
  • Monitors revenue growth and expense controls, implementing strategies to enhance profitability.
  • Orders and manages inventory of bowling, , and operational supplies; verifies quality, accuracy, and cost on deliveries and invoices.
  • Conducts monthly and periodic inventories, ensuring adequate stock without excessive overages.
  • Ensures all facility equipment—including pinspotters/pinsetters, automatic scoring systems, lanes, arcade games, and building systems—is maintained at optimal operating proficiency.
  • Conducts daily inspections of food and beverage areas to ensure compliance with sanitation standards and health regulations.
  • Ensures guest service standards are upheld at all times by monitoring operations, addressing concerns, and supporting staff performance.
  • Completes guest experience evaluations and operational compliance forms regularly.
  • Resolves guest issues with professionalism, providing corrective action and service recovery as needed.
  • Implements and enforces policies, procedures, and operational standards throughout the bowling center.
  • Performs routine management duties essential to efficient bowling center operations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance or support to other team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven ability to oversee a multi-department bowling and entertainment facility, including leagues, arcade, food & beverage, and gaming operations.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills with the ability to supervise, coach, and develop employees at all levels.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality involving Tribal, financial, operational, and personnel information.
  • Expertise in operational planning, budgeting, problem-solving, and performance analysis within a recreational or hospitality environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, POS systems, bowling center scoring/management systems, and other operational software.
  • Advanced decision-making, strategic planning, and analytical skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Sports Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in bowling center, entertainment venue, or hospitality operations.
  • At least 3 years of management experience overseeing bowling operations, guest services, and facility staff.
  • Strong knowledge of bowling center operations, league coordination, tournaments, food and beverage service, and arcade/redemption systems.
  • Experience managing budgets, labor costs, inventory controls, and revenue-driving programs.
  • Proven ability to lead, train, and develop team members in a high-volume, guest-focused environment.
  • Experience working with POS systems, scheduling platforms, and reporting systems (experience with UKG Pro or similar workforce management systems preferred).
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced resort, casino, or high-traffic entertainment environment strongly preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.

  • Mobility: Regularly moves throughout the bowling facility, including the lanes, snack bar, bar area, game rooms, and administrative offices; must be able to stand, walk, and move between areas for extended periods while monitoring operations.
  • Stationary Work: Frequently remains seated or standing at a workstation or meeting area for administrative tasks, staff supervision, or strategic planning.
  • Tool Operation: Regularly operates computers, telephones, and various point-of-sale and reporting systems; may occasionally use cleaning or maintenance tools when assisting with operations.
  • Visual Acuity: Requires close and distance vision to review reports, inspect facilities, monitor safety and service standards, and ensure proper operational execution.
  • Working Conditions: Regularly works in office, food and beverage, and public bowling environments, with exposure to moderate to high noise levels and a smoking environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.

WORKING HOURS:

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
