RahrBSG is looking for a Feed Ingredient Trader to join our team in Hillsboro, ND. The Feed Ingredient Trader is responsible for sourcing, procuring, and selling feed-grade byproducts generated from grain and malt elevators via trucks and some rail, including malt sprouts, screenings, off grade barley and other related byproducts while also actively cross-country trading when applicable. This role manages supplier relationships, negotiates pricing and contracts, identifies new market opportunities, and ensures consistent supply to livestock nutrition customers, feed mills, and distribution partners. The trader balances risk, optimizes margins, and maintains strong market intelligence within the agricultural and feed ingredient sectors.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Trading and Sales
- Market and sell feed byproducts to livestock producers, feed mills, nutrition companies, and brokers.
- Develop pricing strategies aligned with market trends, quality levels, inventory positions, and transportation costs.
- Negotiate sales contracts, including volumes, delivery windows, pricing terms, and quality specifications.
- Maintain and grow customer accounts through proactive relationship management and exceptional service.
Supply and Procurement
- Source feed ingredient byproducts from grain elevators, malt facilities, and other processing operations.
- Coordinate with internal partners at elevator and malt locations to understand production forecasts, inventory levels, and quality specifications.
Market Analysis and Risk Management
- Monitor commodity markets, livestock demand, freight rates, and competing feedstock trends.
- Provide internal forecasts on supply, demand, pricing movements, and margin opportunities.
- Coordinate with leadership on trading exposure and position limits that align with company risk strategies.
Logistics and Operations
- Collaborate with logistics teams to plan rail and truck shipments which need to meet a strict malt schedule.
- Optimize freight strategies to maximize margins and meet customer timelines.
- Resolve load quality issued, delivery descrepancies, or freight delays with customers and suppliers.
Continuous Improvement
- Create and continuously evaluate trading performance metrics, including volume, revenue, and margin reporting. Provide regular updates to leadership.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the company and its operational needs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & WORK REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Business, Supply Chain, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience in commodity trading, feed ingredient sales, agriculture procurement, grain merchandising, or similar field.
- Technical proficiency in Excel and business trading platforms.
- Experience in trading feed byproducts or ingredients relevant to livestock nutrition is preferred.
- Familiarity with grain elevator or malt processing operations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of feed ingredient markets, byproduct valuation, and livestock nutrition inputs.
- Understanding of grain elevator and malt production processes and their impact on byproduct supply and quality.
- Understanding of transportation logistics, freight pricing, and supply chain economics.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with internal and external customers.
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Relationship-building skills with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional partners.
- Proficiency in data analysis, forecasting, and reporting using business systems and spreadsheets.
- Strong time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure and within respective deadlines.
