The Grain / Agricultural Sales Representative is responsible for growing profitable grain and agricultural product sales by building strong relationships with producers, feed customers, and commercial accounts. This role focuses on g, selling value‑added products (such as feed ingredients, hemp‑based products, and specialty grains).
Key Responsibilities
Sales and Customer Relationships
- Develop and manage a portfolio of grain and ag customers (producers, livestock operations, feed mills, and other commercial accounts).
- Prospect for new business through customer site visits, phone outreach, trade events, and digital channels.
- Maintain regular contact with customers to understand their production plans, storage, risk tolerance, and buying needs.
- Present tailored product and pricing options that align company margin targets with customer requirements.
Value‑Added & Specialty Products
- Promote and sell value‑added products such as plant‑based ingredients, feed blends, bedding, oils, or other specialty commodities as defined by the company.
- Work with product development and operations to bring customer feedback into new product ideas, packaging formats, and service offerings.
- Support cross‑selling into related categories (feed, grain, bedding, oils).
Customer Service & Problem Resolution
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customer questions, issues, and complaints related to pricing, contracts, quality, or logistics.
- Work with internal teams (logistics, operations, accounting) to resolve issues promptly and maintain high customer satisfaction.
- Provide customers with timely information on delivery status, contract balances, and upcoming needs.
Market Intelligence & Reporting
- Track and report on sales pipeline, booked vs. delivered volumes.
- Provide regular feedback on market conditions, competitor activity, and customer trends.
- Use CRM/ERP tools (e.g., Business Central, HubSpot, or similar) to log activities, manage contacts, and maintain accurate records.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- 2–5+ years of experience in grain merchandising, agricultural sales, feed sales, or related commodity marketing strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to build relationships in the agricultural industry
Skills & Competencies
- Strong sales and relationship‑building skills.
- Solid understanding of grain markets, pricing, and risk management concepts.
- Organized and detail‑oriented; able to manage multiple accounts, contracts, and follow‑ups.
- Proficient with basic office software and CRM/ERP tools; able to learn company systems quickly.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both in person and over the phone.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record, and ability to travel.
- Willingness to occasionally work extended hours, when needed.
