Legal/Counsel - Investment Management/Funds Partner lawyer
Job Description
Job Description
Investment Management / Funds Partner
A leading law firm is seeking an Investment Management / Funds Partner to join a well-established and strategically significant investment management practice.
Within this firm, investment management is treated as a dedicated industry group rather than an extension of general corporate work. The platform is fully integrated, bringing together fund formation, regulatory, transactional, and litigation professionals who focus exclusively on financial services clients.
This opportunity is ideal for a partner whose practice is centered on investment managers and fund sponsors—particularly in the middle market—and who values deep specialization, strong regulatory support, and collaboration across complementary areas such as private credit.
Core Responsibilities
Fund Formation & Sponsor Advisory
Act as primary outside counsel to investment managers and sponsors on:
- Closed-end fund formation (primary focus)
- Hedge funds
- Private equity funds
- Credit funds, including private credit strategies
Advise clients on:
- Fund structuring and economics
- Regulatory considerations and compliance frameworks
- Ongoing fund operations, amendments, and investor matters
Provide practical, business-oriented guidance to sponsors navigating evolving market conditions.
Integrated Platform Collaboration
- Partner closely with a dedicated investment management regulatory team, including professionals with prior government experience
- Collaborate with transactional lawyers focused on financial institutions and funds
- Work alongside litigators dedicated to investment management and financial services clients
- Deliver cohesive, specialized advice without reliance on generalist support
Client Development & Growth
- Maintain and expand long-term relationships with fund sponsors and managers
- Identify cross-selling opportunities across:
- Fund formation
- Regulatory and compliance counseling
- Transactions involving portfolio companies or affiliates
- Contribute to growth by attracting new sponsor relationships
Ideal Candidate Profile
Experience & Focus
- Dedicated investment management attorney (not a general corporate practitioner)
- Strong background advising sponsors on closed-end funds
- Experience with hedge funds, private equity sponsors, and credit fund sponsors
- Familiarity with sponsor-driven workflows and expectations
Market Orientation
- Practice aligned with middle-market clients
- Experience advising repeat sponsors with ongoing fund programs
- Emphasis on efficiency, specialization, and practical guidance
Business Profile
- Portable book of business preferred (especially for equity consideration)
- Flexibility based on strategic fit, growth potential, and ability to leverage platform resources
- Credit fund experience is highly valued
Key Differentiators of the Platform
Dedicated Investment Management Ecosystem
A fully integrated practice where regulatory, transactional, and litigation teams all serve the same client base, enabling seamless collaboration and alignment.
Deep Regulatory Capabilities
Strong in-house regulatory expertise across:
- SEC and CFTC matters
- Fintech

Strength in Credit Funds
A unique combination of a leading private credit practice and a robust funds platform, offering strong alignment for sponsors launching or scaling credit strategies.

- Emphasis on serving as a trusted business advisor
- Collaborative and low-ego environment
- Active participation in cross-practice initiatives and long-term platform growth expected
