Job Description

Job DescriptionSalary: $18.27-$27.40 per hour based on education and experience

ADVOCACY SPECIALIST-HOUSING


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in a human service field required. A bachelors degree in social work or masters degree in social work or counseling with licensure in the state of North Dakota and experience working with homeless and underserved populations is preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license, have access to personal transportation and be willing to travel for client related activities including transporting clients.


COMPENSATION: $18.27-$27.40 per hour based on education and experience. CVIC participates in the ND Working Parents Child Care Relief program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual Support, Self-Sufficiency and Advocacy

  • Demonstrate professional listening skills while assisting clients in identifying options, establishing goals, and providing ongoing follow-up support to help clients maintain stability and progress towards their goals.
  • Offer career and educational counseling to clients.
  • Provide clients with accurate information about the criminal justice system such as court procedures and the process for filing protection orders.
  • Accompany victims and provide appropriate support to report crimes, to legal proceedings or to the hospital for medical examinations.
  • Organize and lead support groups as needed for victims of domestic abuse and sexual abuse.


Crisis Intervention

  • Work with clients to assess safety on an ongoing basis and complete safety plans.
  • Make all necessary arrangements to provide safe housing, food, and other necessities to victims during crisis periods.


Housing Assistance

  • Assist clients participating in CVICs housing programs with identifying and securing safe housing options.
  • Provide housing advocacy to clients by communicating and collaborating with landlords and property managers on clients behalf.
  • Provide financial assistance by processing and submitting monthly rental payments for clients participating in CVICs housing programs.


Referrals

  • Connect clients to other services based on their identified needs such as specialized therapy, support groups, legal services, and others.


Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records of all contacts with clients and other agencies.
  • Record and compile statistical reports for federal, state, and local agencies and boards.
  • Distribute and collect client surveys that are seeking crisis and supportive services.


Participate on community committees as assigned to strengthen community partnerships and collaboration
