Job Description

The Phlebotomist plays a vital role in providing expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. This professional is key to ensuring patient comfort and obtaining sufficient samples with minimal discomfort, serving a diverse demographic to uphold our commitment to high-quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.
  • Record maintenance data, perform decontamination, and update patient information.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Clearly explain the venipuncture and specimen collection processes to patients.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight and/or butterfly needles.
  • Understand and execute all physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as needed.
  • Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures.
  • Maintain specimen integrity through proper labeling and handling.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Wear appropriate attire including necessary protective equipment.
  • Attend annual department training sessions.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and provide laboratory results.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques.
  • Ability to use straight needles and perform infant draws.
  • Experience with pediatric blood draws.
  • Strong administrative skills with attention to detail.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience in drawing blood.
  • Spanish-speaking proficiency.

Work Environment

This position involves working Monday to Friday from 8 am to 1 pm, with every other Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm, or alternatively, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm with the same Saturday schedule. The role requires travel within the state, offering a change of scenery. There are no holiday or vacation work commitments. Appropriate attire, including protective equipment, is required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Port Chester, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
