Job DescriptionCONFIDENTIAL JOB OPPORTUNITYCommissioning / Service Engineer – Advanced Machine Tools

(Automotive & Industrial Manufacturing – Nationwide Travel) - Headquarted in Farmington Hills, Mi

Are you the kind of engineer who loves solving problems, getting your hands on complex machinery, and seeing the equipment YOU commission come alive on the production floor?
This is your chance to join a global machine-tool innovator that builds some of the most advanced honing and laser machining systems in the world.

We are looking for a Commissioning / Service Engineer who thrives in fast-moving environments, enjoys working directly with customers, and is excited by the challenge of installing, aligning, troubleshooting, and qualifying high-precision automated equipment.

If you love machine builds, controls work, mechanical systems, and seeing a project through from assembly to final acceptance, you will love this role.

What You Will Do (High-Impact Work)

  • Commission, install, align, and qualify advanced CNC machining and laser systems both in-house and at customer facilities.

  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and PLC-based systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) to keep machines performing at peak accuracy.

  • Support machine build teams, assist with tooling setup, and participate in process development for new applications.

  • Lead on-site service activities, deliver technical reports, and serve as a trusted resource for customers during installation and run-off.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, project management, and service teams to hit quality and performance milestones.

  • Travel domestically and internationally (up to 50%) to support installation, training, and commissioning.

You’ll Succeed Here If You Have:

(Ideal candidate profile—based on the type of engineer your client hired)

  • Experience working hands-on with mechanical systems, hydraulic/pneumatic components, machine alignment, and industrial automation.

  • Exposure to PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley or Siemens preferred) and ability to interpret ladder logic/HMI screens.

  • A background in machine builds, equipment installation, maintenance engineering, tooling setups, or commissioning work.

  • Comfort reading blueprints, electrical schematics, part prints, and GD&T.

  • Skill using precision measuring tools (bore gauges, micrometers, indicators, surface finish gauges).

  • Strong communication skills and the professionalism to interact confidently with customers.

  • A passion for travel, hands-on engineering, and solving problems in real time.

Who This Role Is Perfect For:

  • Field service engineers

  • Maintenance engineers wanting to level up into advanced machine tool work

  • Applications or commissioning engineers

  • Mechanical, mechatronics, or controls-oriented engineers who love being hands-on

  • Anyone who enjoys troubleshooting complex equipment and working directly with customers

Why Candidates Love This Position:

  • Every machine you commission becomes a “win” you can see in action

  • Work on highly advanced machining and laser technology

  • Variety: no two customer sites or installations are the same

  • Ability to build a unique, in-demand skillset that accelerates your engineering career

  • Collaborative, team-driven culture with tons of technical exposure

This search is confidential. All applicants will be considered regardless of background or direct experience level—strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn are highly valued.
