Job description:
The 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing became the first wing to provide highly-trained ground combat forces capable of integrating air and space power into the ground scheme of fire and maneuver. The wing members conduct offensive and defensive ground combat operations worldwide to protect expeditionary aerospace forces with an airborne capability.
The CSCS works alongside the 820th BDG. This includes the 822 "Safeside", 823 "Jesters", 824 "Ghost Walkers" and the 820 COS "Reapers". On a daily/weekly basis, the CSCS communicates with squadron leadership to effectively design, communicate, and facilitate squadron PT with the goal of improving the functional fitness levels and preparedness of our airmen, in order to prepare them for the physical demands of daily training exercises, job duties, and deployment.
The strength coach will
- Design and coordinate team and individual programs for all 820th Base Defense Squadrons and Combat Operations Squadrons. Approximately 300 airmen.
- Directly oversee and coordinate daily operations of the Warrior Athlete Center of Excellence (WACoE) facility.
- Perform data tracking to evaluate progression with our tactical athletes, staff, and our human performance facility.
- Be responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance and scheduling of the weight room.
The overall purpose is to provide injury prevention, strength and conditioning services necessary to accomplish the aforementioned mission and associated tasks as required herein.
Qualifications and Experience.
- Degree/Education. Master’s Degree in an accredited exercise physiologist, exercise science, or health science related discipline.
- Certifications. American Red Cross CPR/BLS/AED and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
- Experience. Must demonstrate sustained experience working with elite athlete populations, with a minimum of three (3) years aggregate experience within the past five (5) years. Creditable specialized experience: Primary duties as strength and conditioning coach, responsible for periodized programming and equipment procurement. Elite athletes are military special operations forces, professional, Olympic or Division I collegiate sports.
Specific Task Requirements.
Specifically, the CSCS is preparing airmen for their roles including patrols, completing training jumps from C-130s, running exercises on the climbing wall, land navigation, a ruck with varying distances and loadings (plus extra equipment that different airmen may be carrying), combative trainings, and mission readiness exercises.
A typical day at the WACoE (Warrior Athlete Center of Excellence) looks like opening the Center and preparing it for the daily PT session, breakdown and resetting as needed. Facilitating 1 on 1 sessions with soldiers preparing for Advanced Schooling, or designing programs for airmen to utilize in preparation for PT tests and other physical assessments. Work alongside the Athletic Training professionals, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and other professional staff to provide a holistic approach to wellness and physicality to ensure that airmen of any rank, status, or ability can be physically, mentally, and spiritually ready to Fly, Fight, and Win!
Specific daily tasks may include
- Programming for individuals and squadrons.
- Preparing or breaking down PT sessions.
- Keeping inventory of equipment.
- Communicating with leadership.
- Building relationships with staff and airmen.
- Continuing education of developing PT standards and advanced schooling requirements.
- Cleaning and Maintaining the Human Performance Center.
- Integrating into squadron activities to gain a better understanding of work/training exercise demands.
Shall be able to hike over rough terrain, function in austere environments, and able to lift and manipulate loads and plates up to 25 kilograms and be physically proficient to demonstrate all prescribed exercises and techniques.
