Job Description

Live-In Seasonal Companion / Caregiver - Boothbay Harbor, Maine

Dates: August through Labor Day

Compensation: $40-$45 per hour/DOE, guaranteed 40 daytime hours per week with ample time off.

Accommodation: Live-in; private accommodations provided on property

Overview

A private family is seeking a live-in Companion/Caregiver to provide backup support to Mr. at their summer home in Maine. Following a recent fall, the client's safety and daily well-being are the primary focus of this role. The right candidate is calm, observant, and experienced in companion or personal care work. CNA certification or a background in home health, elder care, or a related medical field is strongly preferred. This is not a clinical position, but the candidate must understand fall risk, mobility support, and how to recognize when a situation requires outside help.

Primary Responsibilities

• Serve as a steady, present companion — attentive without being intrusive

• Assist with daily safety: mobility support, fall prevention, and supervision on uneven terrain (island setting, stairs, docks)

  • Must be able to physically transfer the principal (6 ft tall, 180 lbs).

• Medication reminders and basic health monitoring

• Accompany the client to appointments and errands on the mainland; reliable driving is required

• Assist with personal care as needed (dressing, bathing support)

• Know when to escalate — calm judgment in an emergency is essential

• Communicate regularly with the family regarding the client’s condition and day-to-day status

Secondary Responsibilities

• Light housekeeping: tidying, laundry, keeping the home in order

• Errands on the mainland as needed

Candidate Profile

• CNA, HHA, or equivalent experience strongly preferred. Experience with Parkinson's clients a plus.

• Valid driver’s license with a clean record

• Calm, steady presence; not chatty or intrusive — the principal values quiet

• Genuine warmth and patience with older adults

• Able to live on-site for the full duration of the engagement
