Organizational Overview

The Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) is committed to helping end heart rhythm disorders and saving lives. HRS is the international leader in science, education and advocacy for cardiac arrhythmia professionals and patients, and the primary information resource on heart rhythm disorders. HRS’s mission is to improve patient care by promoting research, education and optimal health care policies and standards. HRS represents more than 8,500 cardiac pacing and electrophysiology professionals in over 90 countries.

Position Summary

Responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a diverse portfolio of donors and funders. This includes individuals, foundations, corporations, and industry partners. As a key member of the HRS development team, the Director will help drive organizational revenue growth through a flexible and entrepreneurial approach to fundraising, aligned with the Society’s strategic goals. The ideal candidate brings a hunter mentality, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to pivot between funding sources and opportunities as needed

Responsibilities

Fundraising & Revenue Development

  • Serve as a frontline fundraiser responsible for meeting or exceeding individual revenue goals.
  • Build and manage a diverse portfolio of prospects across individuals, foundations, and corporate entities, including medical device, pharmaceutical, and health tech partners.
  • Develop and implement tailored solicitation strategies that align with funder interests and HRS’s mission priorities.
  • Actively identify and pursue new revenue opportunities through cold outreach, warm cultivation, and internal referrals.

Grants, Sponsorship & Corporate Support

  • Lead HRS’ grant program by writing and submitting compelling grant and sponsorship proposals, ensuring alignment with funder priorities and programmatic goals.
  • Support the development of year-round partnership opportunities, including sponsorship, advertising, educational grants, and philanthropic support.
  • Serve as a liaison to corporate and foundation partners, providing updates, stewardship materials, and impact reports.

Major & Individual Giving

  • Cultivate mid- and major-level individual donors through personal outreach, tailored engagement, and event-based cultivation.
  • Support donor engagement strategies at convenings, briefings, and virtual or in-person touchpoints.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify donor prospects and advance high-value relationships.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Administration

  • Work closely with innovation, advocacy, education, and marketing teams to support fundable programs and package opportunities for external partners.
  • Maintain timely and accurate donor and funder records in Salesforce, tracking all touchpoints, deadlines, and reporting obligations.
  • Develop stewardship and engagement materials, including reports, dashboards, and thank-you communications.
  • Contribute to internal planning and performance tracking, including budget forecasting and campaign planning.
  • Participate in setting FY budget goals, both monetary and non-monetary, for the development team.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship and Development team.

  • Experience conducting research, collecting and reviewing relevant data, analyzing reports, identifying trends, and reporting results.
  • Experience in managing a portfolio of donors, including developing and cultivating donor relationships.
  • Experience managing projects with a diverse group of individuals, ensuring successful and timely completion of tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals, including donors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Knowledge of business principles involved in resource allocation, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Skill in organizing, planning, and prioritizing work; developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
  • Skill in active Listening; giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Skill in reading comprehension; understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Skill in writing; communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of eight (8) years progressive corporate relations, fundraising/philanthropic program development, or corporate grant writing experience. Corporate or association experience accepted. Prior experience with medical or healthcare professionals and the medical device/pharmaceutical industries preferred.
