Family Law Attorney
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Family Law Attorney to provide compassionate, client-focused legal representation in all aspects of family law. The attorney will manage a diverse caseload involving divorce, child custody, division of assets, adoption, and family-based immigration matters, working to achieve favorable outcomes through negotiation, mediation, and litigation while maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel and representation for clients in divorce proceedings, including drafting pleadings, discovery, and motions.
- Advocate for clients in child custody and parenting time disputes, preparing custody plans, and representing clients at hearings and mediations.
- Handle property division and spousal support matters, including valuation of assets, negotiation of settlements, and preparation of settlement agreements.
- Prepare and file adoption petitions and associated documentation, working with courts, agencies, and clients to complete the adoption process.
- Advise and represent clients in family-based immigration matters that intersect with family law issues, including petitions and waivers when applicable.
- Represent clients in court at hearings, trials, and settlement conferences; develop litigation strategy and perform courtroom advocacy when necessary.
- Conduct legal research and draft clear, persuasive legal documents, motions, and correspondence.
- Counsel clients on legal options, risks, and likely outcomes; maintain client communication and case updates throughout the representation.
- Collaborate with support staff, co-counsel, and expert witnesses (e.g., financial, mental health) to build strong cases and prepare for hearings.
- Manage case files, deadlines, and billing in accordance with firm policies and professional rules of conduct.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the state bar and licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience practicing family law, with demonstrated experience in divorce, child custody, and division of assets.
- Experience or familiarity with adoption proceedings and family-based immigration matters is highly desirable.
- Strong litigation and negotiation skills, including courtroom experience and settlement advocacy.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to explain complex legal concepts in a clear, compassionate manner.
- Proven ability to manage a busy caseload while maintaining attention to detail and client service.
- Demonstrated ethical judgment, professionalism, and sensitivity when handling emotionally charged family law matters.
- Comfortable using case management software and conducting legal research; bilingual candidates (e.g., Spanish) are encouraged to apply.
