The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of all guests using the pool and lazy river areas. This position enforces pool rules, monitors guest activity, and provides emergency assistance when needed, while delivering exceptional 4-Star/4-Diamond service at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors daily operations of the pool and lazy river areas to ensure a safe and clean environment.
  • Provides towels and amenities to guests and addresses guest requests promptly and courteously.
  • Ensures all guests receive 4-Star/4-Diamond level service throughout their visit.
  • Enforces pool rules and monitors guest behavior to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment.
  • Responds to emergency situations with prompt and appropriate care including CPR and First Aid.
  • Controls and de-escalates unruly or unsafe guest behavior in accordance with training.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance or support to other team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In-depth knowledge of lifeguard duties and pool operations.
  • Must demonstrate strong situational awareness and the ability to respond quickly in emergencies.
  • Excellent guest service and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to uphold safety protocols and enforce rules consistently and respectfully.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Additional coursework in recreation, hospitality, or emergency response is a plus.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification, CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required.
  • Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience in a lifeguard or aquatic safety role preferred.
  • Proven ability to monitor pool areas, enforce safety rules, and respond effectively to emergency situations.
  • Strong swimming skills and knowledge of rescue techniques, water safety, and basic first aid procedures.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with a professional and attentive demeanor.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and safety standards in pool and deck areas.
  • Prior experience in a hotel, resort, or recreational facility is preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate clearly and assertively with guests and team members in person; responsible for enforcing safety rules, providing emergency instructions, and offering customer service in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Frequently lifts and carries rescue equipment, pool supplies, and safety gear weighing up to 50 pounds; must be able to assist or carry individuals during emergency situations.
  • Manual Dexterity: Regularly uses hands and arms to perform rescues, administer CPR, operate safety equipment, and maintain control of rescue tools with precision.
  • Mobility: Continuously walks, stands, runs, climbs, swims, kneels, and moves around pool decks, ladders, and aquatic areas; must be physically able to respond quickly and effectively in emergency rescue situations.
  • Stationary Work: Occasionally remains in a stationary seated or standing position for extended periods while monitoring guests from lifeguard stations.
  • Tool Operation: Frequent use of rescue tubes, backboards, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), first aid kits, and communication radios; must maintain equipment in ready condition at all times.
  • Visual Acuity: Requires excellent distance and peripheral vision to monitor pool areas, identify potential hazards, and detect signs of distress in swimmers.
  • Working Conditions: Routinely operates in outdoor and indoor aquatic environments exposed to sun, heat, humidity, chlorinated water, and slippery surfaces; occasional exposure to loud noise, crowded conditions, and a smoking environment while transitioning through property.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.

WORKING HOURS:

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
