Title: Development & Special Events Manager

Organization Type: Youth Services

Work Location: Basking Ridge, NJ with work from home options

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 3 months+ (possible temp to perm conversion)

Schedule: M-F, 9 am - 5 pm

Pay: $35/hour

Reports To: Chief Development Officer

Status: Interim/Temporary, with potential for permanent placement

Term: Immediate start through January 2027

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Work Arrangement: 3 days on site with 2 days work from home

Required Experience: 3-5 years+ of nonprofit development/fundraising experience

Position Summary

Seeking an experienced Interim Development & Special Events Manager to provide immediate support to the Development Department during a period of staff transition. Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and collaborating with the Development and Communications Coordinator (DCC), this position will play a critical hands-on role in maintaining fundraising momentum, executing major fundraising events, supporting donor and sponsor relationships, and ensuring that priority development activities remain on schedule.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned nonprofit development professional who can quickly step into an active fundraising environment, independently manage multiple priorities, and move projects from planning through execution with limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Special Events & Sponsorships

  • Provide hands-on management and execution of major fundraising events, including a Golf Classic (in early October 2026) and Gala (in mid-November 2026), as well as other development-led events and initiatives throughout the year.
  • Provide planning, coordination, and on-site support for other fundraising, donor, community engagement events and activities as needed
  • Maintain comprehensive event timelines, task lists, sponsorship commitments, guest information, revenue projections, and outstanding deliverables.
  • Manage sponsor outreach, follow-up, fulfillment, recognition, and stewardship.
  • Coordinate event logistics with venues, vendors, committees, volunteers, and internal staff.
  • Support ticket and table sales, journal advertisements, sponsorships, auction activities, donor recognition, and event-related communications.
  • Ensure sponsorship benefits and commitments are accurately tracked and fulfilled.
  • Assist with post-event reconciliation, acknowledgments, stewardship, and reporting.

Donor Relations & Fundraising

  • Support the CDO in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual and corporate donors.
  • Conduct timely donor and sponsor follow-up and help maintain an active pipeline of fundraising opportunities.
  • Draft donor correspondence, sponsorship communications, acknowledgment materials, and other development communications.
  • Assist with annual giving campaigns including the end-of-year campaign, appeals, donor renewals, and other fundraising initiatives as needed.
  • Help identify opportunities to deepen relationships with existing donors and sponsors.
  • Provide appropriate donor research and briefing materials to support CDO and leadership engagement.

Development Operations & Database Management

  • Maintain accurate donor, prospect, sponsorship, and event information in Raiser's Edge and other development systems.
  • Support fundraising reports, revenue tracking, outstanding pledge monitoring, and reconciliation with Finance.
  • Maintain organized electronic records and development documentation to ensure continuity throughout the interim assignment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible nonprofit fundraising/development experience, including experience with donor engagement and moves management.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of significant hands-on fundraising event experience, including galas, golf outings, corporate sponsorships, or comparable revenue-generating events.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or a comparable donor CRM required; Raiser’s Edge experience a plus!
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation to travel locally throughout New Jersey as required for events, meetings, donor engagement, and other Development activities.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required for fundraising events and donor activities.
