Assistant Store Manager- Outlet

Full-Time 40 hours per week

$16.00/hour

Job Summary

The Assistant Store Manager at the Duluth Outlet Store supports the Store Manager in the daily operations of the store and warehouse. This individual plays a key leadership role by opening and closing the store, training and supervising team members, supporting donation and processing operations, and ensuring smooth communication with eCommerce, transportation, and warehouse departments.

The Outlet environment is fast-paced and physically demanding, requiring a hands-on leader who can maintain workflow efficiency, motivate staff, and ensure adherence to Goodwill standards and policies.


Duties And Responsibilities


Store Operations & Supervision

  • Open and close the store 5 days per week, including alternating weekends.
  • Provide store coverage and supervision in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly leadership meetings.
  • Lead by example in customer service, professionalism, and teamwork.
  • Provide on-the-floor supervision to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Train and oversee team members on outlet procedures and service expectations.
  • Support employee development by reinforcing job duties and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, loss prevention, and security policies.

Cash Handling & Register Oversight

  • Train staff on register use, transactions, and customer interactions.
  • Operate the register as needed, process returns, and issue donation receipts/coupons.
  • Count cash drawers, reconcile daily totals, and declare cash using L-BOSS.
  • Operate and manage the safe/smart safe and prepare daily deposits.
  • Maintain cash handling compliance and armored truck pickups.

Donation & Processing Leadership

  • Train staff on donation intake, accepted items, and sorting.
  • Operate and train staff in the Donation Sorting Area (DSA).
  • Oversee donation processor functions, including load creation, salvage categories, and eCommerce sorting.
  • Train staff on handling valuables, found money, and jewelry processes.

Outlet-Specific Operations

  • Oversee rotation of boats (large merchandise bins) and train staff on switching procedures.
  • Ensure timely product refreshes by rotating inventory.
  • Operate or assist with balers, ensuring proper salvage practices.
  • Communicate salvage and garbage pickup needs.
  • Monitor donation door coverage and store flow to maintain efficiency.
  • Coordinate with warehouse and transportation teams for incoming/outgoing goods.

Interdepartmental Communication

  • Collaborate with the eCommerce team on routing of goods.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the Warehouse Manager and Transportation team.
  • Manage supply ordering through Staples and other approved vendors.
  • Maintain documentation, logs, and spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a high-paced, physical environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Clear and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.

Experience and Education

  • High school diploma or GED strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of retail or supervisory experience.

Physical Requirements

These work environment factors are general in nature: CONSTANT: Stand and near vision. FREQUENT: Bend neck; talk/speak; and visual accommodation. OCCASIONAL: Medium work, lift and carry up to 50 pounds; rotate neck, static neck position; walk; hear within 5 feet and midrange vision. This role involves a high level of physical labor in a warehouse environment.
