JOB SUMMARY
This is a salaried, in-house position with an Eastern Massachusetts-based real estate development
company. There will be no business generation or minimum billable hour requirements with this
job; candidates will only work on projects owned and being developed by the employer. This
individual will lead the planning and design of civil engineering, land development, and
infrastructure projects and work closely with the permitting team on a variety of residential
development projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead site/civil engineering
design for a variety of single-family style residential development projects, as well as other
exciting land development opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ability to lead a wide range of civil engineering analysis and perform design tasks related to:
roadway design, zoning analysis, site plan preparation, site stormwater management, utility
planning and layout, transportation planning/design, parking analysis and layout, vehicle
maneuvering analysis, site ADA improvements, pavement and grading design.
• Work in conjunction with the permitting team for the presentation of submissions to local
municipalities, utilities, environmental agencies, and local planning and zoning boards, as
appropriate.
• Prepare project narratives and present project plans at public hearings.
• Prepare responses to peer review engineer comments and questions.
• Oversee and manage the Staff EIT’s work on their site investigations to observe and
document existing conditions and do soil evaluations and perc tests.
• Complete and review design calculations; Lead in the preparation of all drawings and
specifications.
• Supervise the development of project plans, design calculations, specifications and lead the
coordination with the permitting team and Staff EIT to deliver quality work product in the
time frames designated at the start of each project.
• Provide responses and solutions to issues during the construction administration phase of
projects.
• Utilize a broad assortment of technical and project management skills on projects that range
from 1 to 2 house developments to new subdivisions with 25+ new homes being built.
• Ensures compliance with codes, standards, and design, operation, and maintenance
requirements.
• Identifies potential areas of weakness with assigned work, and initiates corrective action.
• Document and share work product with others to strengthen the depth and breadth of skills
within PSE’s engineering workforce.
• Use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess soil
composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and
their impact on the planning and design of projects;
• Possess familiarity with current local and state land use permitting is required.
• Collaborate with team members on project tasks and assignments; and
• Perform other job duties as requested.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
• MA PE license in Civil Engineering and MA Soil Evaluator license
• 4+ years of prior relevant professional experience in site/civil design, including site planning,
grading, storm water management, drainage, soil erosion, traffic, parking, presenting at
public hearings, and the preparation of peer review response reports.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D or Carlson Civil Suite software
• Experience in working with various MA cities and townships with the MBTA, Massport, and/
or MassDOT preferred but not required.
• Understanding and application of local code and permitting requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
and
• Demonstrated ability to follow directions and work in a collaborative team environment.
• Experience with project management software applications such as Procore or similar is a plus
