Job Description

Are you called to a career that combines heartfelt compassion, professional growth, and the privilege of serving families during life's most tender moments? Join our progressive, family-focused funeral home where we truly love and invest in our funeral directors and team members — because we know the profound difference you make every single day.

As a Funeral Director Apprentice, you'll gain invaluable hands-on experience under the direct supervision of experienced, licensed Missouri funeral directors. This is your structured path to full licensure, fulfilling all state apprenticeship requirements while building a rewarding, long-term career with an organization that prioritizes mentorship, teamwork, and personal development.

What You'll Do (and Love Doing):

  • Assist our talented licensed funeral directors in creating personalized, dignified funeral arrangements and supporting families through consultations and planning.
  • Participate in services with grace and respect — from coordination and setup to ensuring every detail honors the family’s wishes.
  • Handle important administrative tasks like preparing death certificates, permits, and records with precision and care.
  • Observe and assist (under strict supervision) with respectful transportation and decedent preparation, always following top safety and sanitation standards.
  • Build meaningful connections with families, clergy, and community members while upholding the highest levels of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Immerse yourself in Missouri regulations, best practices, and our forward-thinking funeral home policies — setting you up for success as a future leader in the field.

Why This Is an Exceptional Opportunity:

  • Real career growth in a progressive organization that champions its people — many of our top funeral directors started right where you are!
  • Comprehensive on-the-job training paired with mentorship from passionate, supportive leaders who want to see you thrive and advance.
  • A team environment that values collaboration, emotional resilience, and mutual respect — we support each other through every challenge and celebration.
  • Make a genuine difference: Help families find comfort, closure, and meaningful ways to honor their loved ones.

What We're Looking For:

  • High school diploma or GED (coursework in mortuary science or related fields is a plus).
  • Strong empathy, communication, and interpersonal skills to connect compassionately with grieving families.
  • Attention to detail, organizational talent, and emotional strength to handle sensitive situations with grace.
  • Professionalism, ethical integrity, and a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Willingness to register as a Funeral Director Apprentice with the Missouri State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors.
  • Customer service, administrative, or healthcare experience is helpful but not required — we provide all the training you need!

Physical & Work Environment Notes:

This role involves some physical demands (lifting with assistance/equipment, standing, bending) in a respectful, quiet funeral home setting (offices, chapels, preparation areas, and occasional off-site services). We prioritize safety protocols and provide all necessary support.

If you're ready to turn your compassion into a purposeful, growing career with a team that truly values and celebrates its funeral professionals — apply today!

We can't wait to welcome you to our family and help you build a future in this honored profession.

We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, inclusion, and professional excellence in funeral service.
