Overview
A leading manufacturer is seeking a seasoned Director of Digital Technology to lead the digital transformation efforts of a key business unit. This senior-level position will be responsible for driving technology strategy, innovation, and operational excellence across manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IT leadership, manufacturing environments, and a proven ability to align technology initiatives with business outcomes.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity to shape the digital future of a high-impact operation, overseeing both strategic planning and the execution of cutting-edge technologies such as MES/SCADA, IoT, AI/ML, and smart manufacturing tools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the digital technology function within a core business unit, overseeing a team of 20+ direct and indirect reports.

  • Ensure uptime, reliability, and performance of mission-critical systems across product design, manufacturing, and aftermarket operations.

  • Represent the business unit in communications with executive leadership, translating technology goals into business value.

  • Lead initiatives to advance digital maturity, including the adoption of smart factory capabilities and Industry 4.0 innovations.

  • Collaborate with enterprise and segment leaders to define and execute a forward-looking digital strategy roadmap.

  • Oversee IT financial management practices including budgeting, ROI analysis, and performance optimization.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and cybersecurity protocols.

  • Act as a change agent to support strategic transformation and digital enablement across manufacturing and enterprise operations.

  • Promote best practices in IT operations, project execution, architecture, and digital infrastructure.

Required Skills

  • Proven leadership experience managing both in-person and remote technical teams.

  • Strong business acumen and ability to communicate effectively with C-suite executives.

  • Deep understanding of manufacturing environments, including end-to-end processes from product development through aftermarket support.

  • Demonstrated experience with systems such as ERP and MES (e.g., JD Edwards, SCADA).

  • Track record of leading enterprise-wide IT initiatives and digital transformation efforts.

  • Expertise in IT governance, cybersecurity, financial planning, and digital risk mitigation.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including negotiation, storytelling, public speaking, and team coaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in a relevant field.

  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Background in deploying or maintaining Industry 4.0 solutions, smart factory technologies, or advanced analytics platforms.

  • Familiarity with agile frameworks, strategic planning, and change management.
