Ellis Real Estate Services is seeking a driven, people-first Leasing Agent to join our Kansas City team. This is a commission-forward role designed for someone who is self-motivated, comfortable in the field, and energized by closing — the more you lease, the more you earn.
Position Overview
The Leasing Agent is the first face prospective tenants see, and the person responsible for turning vacancies into signed leases. You'll manage the full leasing cycle — from first inquiry to move-in day — across a scatter-site portfolio of single-family homes and small multifamily properties throughout the Kansas City metro. This role pairs a stable hourly base with meaningful commission on every lease you sign.
Key Responsibilities
Leasing & Showings
- Respond promptly to inquiries via phone, email, and listing platforms
- Schedule and conduct property showings at sites across the KC metro
- Convert leads into applicants through timely, professional follow-up
- Guide applicants through the process from inquiry to approved lease
Application & Lease Execution
- Process rental applications and communicate decisions to applicants
- Prepare and execute leases using AppFolio property management software
- Coordinate move-in logistics including key handoff and tenant orientation
- Ensure all lease documentation is complete and accurate
Pipeline & Marketing
- Maintain up-to-date vacancy listings across marketing platforms
- Track and manage active leads to maximize portfolio occupancy
- Collaborate with the maintenance and admin teams to ensure units are show-ready
Qualifications
- Real Estate License
- 1+ years of experience in leasing, property management, sales, or a customer-facing role (preferred)
- Reliable vehicle and valid driver's license — field travel is a regular part of this job
- Strong communication skills across phone, email, and in-person interactions
- Self-directed and comfortable managing your own schedule and pipeline
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Gmail)
- AppFolio experience is a plus
Compensation
- Hourly base pay (W-2) + commission on every signed lease
- Mileage reimbursement for property showings
- Earning potential scales directly with your performance and the portfolio's vacancy volume
