Required to be physically onsite to maintain critical operations. Must make every effort to report onsite during closures or delays unless released by leadership. May be required to work modified or extended shifts.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Retail Sales Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the front-end retail area, including merchandising, inventory management, staff supervision, and customer experience. This role ensures effective execution of retail operations, supports sales growth, and maintains alignment with organizational standards and customer needs.
The Retail Sales Manager serves as the primary point of accountability for front-end staff and operations, ensuring consistent coverage, accurate timekeeping, and adherence to company policies and procedures.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Front-End Operations & Staff Management:
- Supervise and support retail staff, including cashiers and front-end personnel.
- Develop and manage employee work schedules; ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
- Manage daily operations of the retail area to ensure efficient workflow and a positive customer experience.
- Approve employee timecards and ensure accuracy and timely submission in UMT’s Human Resource Information System.
- Address employee relations matters, including coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Support performance management processes, including providing feedback and completing evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable operational standards.
- Merchandising and Buying:
- Select and purchase merchandise, including OTC products, durable medical equipment (DME), fits, and specialty items.
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers.
- Plan and execute seasonal displays and in-store merchandising strategies.
- Monitor product performance and adjust inventory selections based on customer demand and sales trends.
- Inventory Management:
- Monitor inventory levels and maintain appropriate stock levels to support operations.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
- Analyze and inventory reports to optimize product turnover and minimize shrink.
- Coordinate ordering, receiving, and product placement.
- Sales & Promotions:
- Support development and execution of in-store promotions and product displays to drive sales.
- Develop marketing initiatives, including in-store signage and social media content as appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to increase revenue through product mix and merchandising strategies.
- Customer Experience:
- Ensure a high level of customer service is consistently delivered by all front-end staff.
- Address customer concerns and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Foster a welcoming, community-focused retail environment.
- Coordination with Pharmacy Operations:
- Partner with the Pharmacist-in-Charge to ensure alignment between pharmacy and retail operations.
- Communicate effectively with pharmacy staff to support overall workflow and customer service.
- Support operational needs of the pharmacy as appropriate while maintaining clear role responsibilities.
- Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned to support the achievement of primary duties and responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
- Retail operations and merchandising knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, and develop employees.
- Strong price-negotiation and product-costing skills.
- Ability to analyze sales and inventory data to support decision-making.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with computer systems, including email, point-of-sale software, and basic spreadsheets.
- Working knowledge of timekeeping and payroll systems.
- Good eye for visual merchandising and floor layout planning.
- Basic understanding of invoices, bill payments, and simple bookkeeping.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to confidently present buying plans to leadership.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) years’ experience as a buyer or category-manager in gifts, specialty retail, or pharmacy front-end.
- Experience in a community pharmacy or health-related retail setting preferred.
- Familiarity with online ordering platforms is preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license or be able to obtain one and be insurable to drive Tribal vehicles.
