Director of Engineering
Position Overview
The Director of Engineering will lead the engineering department to develop innovative solutions and ensure compliance within electronic, utility, energy & related industry standards. This role is responsible for driving technical strategy, managing resources, and overseeing product development efforts in the energy sector with an emphasis on batteries, utilities & alternative energy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering team in the design and implementation of projects while ensuring compliance with specifications like UL, CSA, IEC, NEC, and NFPA standards.
- Develop and execute technical strategies that align with company goals and promote innovation in product design and development.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful project delivery.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration among teams including product management, quality assurance, and operations to enhance project outcomes.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement change management processes to mitigate project risks.
- Oversee stakeholder engagement to ensure alignment and satisfaction throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Ensure the team adheres to best practices in Agile methodologies and promotes continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field (i.e. EE, Physics, CS, CE, etc.); Master's degree preferred.
- Previous experience either designing products that require certification OR spending time in a lab toward product certification is a must
- 10+ years of experience in engineering management, with a proven track record in the utilities, energy (solar, Oil & Gas, alternative energy) sector.
- Strong knowledge of compliance standards relevant to the industry (UL, CSA, IEC, NEC, NFPA & regional grid standards - i.e. IEEE 1547, UL1751 / 9540/ 1741 SB, etc.).
- Experience working with offshore manufacturers, ideally in China or Taiwann
- Experience in project management, change management and a solid understanding of Agile methodologies.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Proficiency in budget management, resource allocation, and risk assessment.
- Demonstrated experience in product development and technical strategy formulation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on quality assurance and innovation management.
