Job DescriptionSalary: $50,000 to $70,000 plus bonuses

Job Summary:


The Lawn Care Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of lawn care, landscape maintenance, and irrigation service crews. This role ensures that all fieldwork is performed safely, efficiently, and to company quality standards. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with hands-on knowledge in turf care, landscaping practices, and irrigation systems.



Key Responsibilities:


Crew Management

  • Supervise and support multiple field crews including lawn care, landscape maintenance, and irrigation technicians.
  • Train new and existing team members on procedures, safety standards, and customer service expectations.
  • Conduct morning dispatch, end-of-day debriefs, and job tracking.

Scheduling & Routing

  • Create and manage daily and weekly crew schedules for lawn care, maintenance, and irrigation work.
  • Prioritize jobs based on urgency, weather conditions, and resource availability.
  • Ensure jobs are completed on time and to client expectations.

Landscape Maintenance Oversight

  • Inspect and evaluate maintenance job sites regularly.
  • Ensure proper pruning, mulching, edging, plant care, and seasonal cleanups are performed.
  • Provide support for enhancements and small installation projects when needed.

Irrigation Oversight

  • Coordinate seasonal irrigation services (start-ups, mid-season checks, winterization).
  • Diagnose basic irrigation issues and dispatch repair work.
  • Ensure techs are using proper methods for testing, programming, and repairing systems.

Quality Control

  • Perform site visits to assess quality of work and provide feedback.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints or service deficiencies.
  • Maintain high standards of appearance and functionality on all properties.

Customer Communication

  • Serve as the point of contact for service concerns and on-site decisions.
  • Keep clients informed about scheduling, progress, or required changes.
  • Work closely with account managers and sales staff to ensure customer satisfaction.

Equipment & Materials Management

  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of trucks, mowers, landscape tools, and irrigation equipment.
  • Monitor supply levels of turf products, mulch, irrigation parts, and other materials.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules for field equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills. With prior supervisory duties for 15 to 20 employees.
  • Prior experience utilizing an ERP system for scheduling and reporting.
  • 3+ years of experience in lawn care, landscape maintenance, and/or irrigation (with supervisory experience preferred).
  • Prior experience with financial or budget activities to fund operations, maximize investments, or increase efficiency.
  • Valid drivers license (CDL or Irrigation Technician License a plus).
  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in various weather.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary (based on experience) The anticipated salary range for this role is $50,000 to $70,000 annual plus incentivized bonuses. The actual salary will vary based on applicants education, experience, skills, and abilities. From the Ground Up will not pay less than the applicable minimum wage or salary threshold.
