DC SAFE is seeking to hire a full-time Crisis Shelter Manager

This is a full-time, in person position. A weekend day, Saturday, or Sunday, and nontraditional hours are required.

Crisis Shelter Manager to oversee and maintain the safety and security of the daily operations of a 30-unit 24/7 emergency shelter. The Crisis Shelter Manager assesses the necessary macro function of the shelter and makes appropriate service recommendations. Maintain client data and generate reports in support of client services. Support employee related interviews, reviews, new hire onboarding, and dismissals. Assist with team building initiatives and overall support of organizational culture and employee morale. Serve as a trainer for program staff, modeling effective communication and trauma informed problem solving.

Essential Functions (Job Duties)

  • Coordinate the day-to-day function of the SAFE Space Crisis Shelter. This includes, but is not limited to, directing the work of the team of the Advocates.

  • Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by maintaining quality control guidelines, enforcing organization standards, and adhering to policies and HR processes.

  • Attend and facilitate Monthly program meetings, staff and advocate meetings, and others as needed to maintain continuity between programs and services.

  • Monitor team performance and report on metrics- monthly stats, grant reporting

  • Oversee the daily physical operations of the facility and grounds, including client, staff, and visitor safety, cleanliness, code compliance, and minor/major repairs.

  • Manage relationships with vendors: security, linens, and property management

  • Coordinate monthly staff schedules for the shelter.

  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and provide emergency coverage of uncovered shifts when required.

  • Develop new and maintain existing service linkages to support the program, including developing relationships with local service providers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • External Relations: Serves as an effective ambassador, builds connections, and maintains relationships with outside constituents.

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Computer Skills: Word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, database software, and contact management.

Qualifications

Background and Experience

  • 3-5 years of management experience with crisis intervention, shelter, and community based work.

  • Applicants with mandatory 40-hour advocacy training completed are preferred.

  • Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.

  • Experience with domestic violence issues and DC social service resources.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to closely follow protocol and procedures are a must.

  • Experience working with law enforcement is preferred.

  • Comfortable working with diverse populations.

  • Experience with the criminal and civil legal system preferred.

Benefits:

A competitive benefits package with paid time off -vacation, sick, personal days, a contribution for the cost of the health care coverage (100% for individuals, 50% for dependents), paid holidays, and retirement plan options with a 3% match after one year of service. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
