Job Description

The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs a wide range of facilities support functions, including drywall repair, painting, carpentry, and basic electrical work, to ensure the building and equipment remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. This role involves installing, maintaining, repairing, and testing base-building equipment and systems while supporting ongoing facility upkeep in a commercial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general facilities support functions to maintain the building in a safe, clean, and operational condition.
  • Complete drywall work, including installation, patching, and repair of walls and ceilings.
  • Carry out interior and exterior painting, including surface preparation, priming, and finishing.
  • Perform minor carpentry tasks such as framing, repairs, and installation of fixtures and building components.
  • Install, maintain, repair, and test equipment for base building and facility support systems.
  • Assist with electrical tasks, including installing and running conduit, performing basic industrial wiring, and supporting electrical installations as directed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to support installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting of electrical wiring and related facility systems to identify and resolve issues.
  • Support the upkeep and basic maintenance of boilers, air conditioning, and other building systems as required.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to perform maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facility areas and equipment to identify maintenance needs and perform corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, equipment serviced, and materials used.
  • Operate a company vehicle safely to travel between facilities or to obtain materials and supplies as needed.
  • Follow all safety procedures, guidelines, and regulations while working on facility systems and using tools and equipment.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude gained through previous job experience or vocational schooling.
  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience with hand and power tools.
  • Experience performing minor carpentry work in a commercial or facilities environment.
  • Proficiency in drywall installation, repair, and finishing.
  • Experience with painting, including preparation and finishing of surfaces.
  • 1–2 years of experience supporting commercial facilities upkeep.
  • Ability to install, maintain, repair, and test equipment for base-building and facility support.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical work, including conduit installation, industrial wiring, and electrical wiring practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical or mechanical schematics.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for electrical wiring and facility systems.
  • Familiarity with boilers and air conditioning systems sufficient to assist with upkeep and basic maintenance.
  • Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to operate a company vehicle safely.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work safely and follow established safety procedures and guidelines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Vocational schooling or technical training in mechanical, electrical, or building trades is beneficial.
  • Previous experience in an industrial or laboratory facility environment is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple maintenance tasks and priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail in repair, installation, and finishing work.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with internal staff and external service providers.
  • Ability to read and follow written work orders, instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Willingness to support a variety of facility support tasks beyond primary trade skills.

Work Environment

This role is based in a commercial facility located in San Juan Capistrano, CA. You will work primarily on-site within a base-building environment that includes office, laboratory, and support areas. The position involves frequent use of hand and power tools, as well as working with building systems such as drywall, carpentry structures, electrical components, boilers, and air conditioning equipment. Work may require moving between indoor and utility areas, climbing ladders, and working in mechanical or equipment rooms. Standard working hours follow typical business operations, with the possibility of occasional adjustments based on maintenance needs or facility priorities. Attire should be appropriate for a hands-on maintenance setting, with practical work clothing and any required personal protective equipment provided or specified according to safety guidelines.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Juan Capistrano, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
