Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

The Material Handler operates forklifts to move structural steel on and off flatbed trailers, supports welders and fabricators by staging materials, and ensures efficient flow of product throughout the facility. This role is primarily outdoors, with approximately 75% of the time spent moving product outside, and requires attention to safety, accuracy, and productivity on a fast-paced first shift schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts safely and efficiently to move structural steel around the yard and shop.
  • Load and unload structural steel from flatbed trailers and trucks, ensuring secure and accurate handling.
  • Stage and deliver materials to welders and fabricators in a timely manner to support production schedules.
  • Perform material handling tasks including picking, packing, and order picking to fulfill internal and external requests.
  • Assist with inventory-related activities such as locating, organizing, and tracking materials as needed.
  • Work outdoors for the majority of the shift, moving product around the yard and maintaining organized material flow.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines when operating equipment and working around structural steel and production welding areas.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate material movement and resolve issues quickly.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, both inside the shop and in outdoor yard spaces.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience operating a forklift in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on material handling experience, specifically with loading, unloading, and moving heavy materials.
  • Experience working with structural steel, including understanding of safe handling practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods while performing physical material movement tasks.
  • Strong awareness of safety procedures related to forklift operation and working around production welding.
  • Capability to support welders and fabricators by accurately staging and delivering required materials.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a typical shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Worked in production settings where welding and fabrication are present.
  • Familiarity with inventory processes such as picking, packing, and order picking.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a typical shop and yard environment focused on structural steel and production welding. Approximately 75% of the workday is spent outdoors moving product around the facility, with the remainder inside the shop. The first shift runs Monday through Thursday from 5:30 AM to 4:00 PM and Friday from 5:30 AM to 3:00 PM, offering a consistent daytime schedule. The facility provides heat that can be utilized outside during winter months to support comfort and productivity in colder conditions. Employees work around heavy materials, forklifts, and welding operations, following established safety protocols and wearing appropriate work attire suitable for an industrial and outdoor setting.

This is a Permanent position based out of Somerset, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
