Position Overview

The Night Auditor plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth overnight operation of the hotel by delivering exceptional guest service while accurately completing the daily financial audit. This position combines front desk responsibilities with accounting functions, ensuring guest satisfaction, operational efficiency, and financial accuracy during overnight hours.

Essential Responsibilities

Guest Services

  • Welcome, register, and assist overnight guests with professionalism and genuine hospitality
  • Process guest check-ins, check-outs, room changes, and billing inquiries accurately
  • Respond promptly to guest requests, concerns, and emergencies while providing outstanding customer service
  • Answer telephone calls and provide information regarding hotel services, amenities, local attractions, and directions
  • Resolve guest concerns independently whenever possible, escalating issues to management when appropriate
  • Ensure guest confidentiality and protect sensitive information at all times

Night Audit & Financial Responsibilities

  • Complete the nightly audit process in accordance with Marriott and hotel standards.
  • Verify and balance all daily hotel transactions, including guest folios, room revenue, food and beverage charges, taxes, and miscellaneous revenue.
  • Review, reconcile, and post all payments and adjustments.
  • Prepare and distribute required daily financial reports for hotel leadership.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies before closing the business day.
  • Organize and verify receipts and supporting documentation from all hotel outlets.
  • Ensure all guest accounts are settled accurately following completion of the night audit.
  • Maintain accurate records of all overnight financial transactions

Hotel Operations

  • Prepare the hotel for the upcoming business day by ensuring accurate room assignments and guest information
  • Communicate overnight activity, guest concerns, maintenance issues, and operational updates to the morning management team
  • Coordinate with Housekeeping, Engineering, Security, and other departments to address overnight needs
  • Monitor hotel safety and security procedures throughout the shift
  • Conduct routine property inspections and security walks as required

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Complete all nightly reports, audit logs, and required documentation
  • Maintain organized records in accordance with hotel policies and audit requirements
  • Safeguard hotel assets, cash, and confidential financial information
  • Ensure compliance with Marriott standards, hotel policies, and all applicable procedure
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • College coursework in Hospitality Management, Accounting, Business, or a related field is preferred
  • Previous hotel front desk or Night Auditor experience preferred
  • Marriott experience is a plus
  • Cash handling and basic accounting experience preferred

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication abilities
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Basic accounting and financial reconciliation knowledge
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and hotel property management systems
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional appearance and demeanor consistent with luxury hospitality standards

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours per shift
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move up to 25 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and use a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to work overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and special events as business demands
