Security Clearance: Must be eligible to possess MBI (IRS Background Investigation) clearance. Active MBI clearance is preferred.
Job Summary:
The Lead Full Stack Developer/Architect will serve as a senior technical leader supporting the IRS program, responsible for designing, developing, and modernizing mission-critical IRS systems. This role requires deep technical expertise in Java/Spring Boot, microservices architecture, and container-based development, supporting the IRS's modernization initiatives for several critical enterprise systems.
The ideal candidate will bring expert-level programming capabilities, strong experience with container modernization and microservices development, and the ability to lead end-to-end architecture and implementation of scalable enterprise solutions within a secure federal environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of modern full-stack applications supporting IRS's modernization initiatives.
- Architect and implement microservices-based solutions using Java and Spring Boot.
- Design and develop containerized services using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
- Provide end-to-end architectural leadership, from application design through deployment and production support.
- Develop scalable backend services and APIs that integrate with IRS enterprise systems and legacy platforms.
- Lead efforts to modernize legacy systems into microservices and container-based architectures.
- Implement secure, high-performance APIs and backend services supporting enterprise-level workloads.
- Ensure adherence to IRS enterprise architecture, security, and development standards.
- Collaborate with architects, DevOps engineers, and other development teams to ensure seamless integration across systems.
- Participate in code reviews and enforce high-quality coding standards and best practices.
- Support CI/CD pipeline integration and automated deployment processes.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to development team members.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and support system optimization and performance improvements.
- Contribute to architecture documentation, design artifacts, and technical implementation plans.
- Demonstrated ability/evidence of high volume of accurate code production.
- Competency in container orchestration platforms, Git-based source control, Agile development tools, and DevSecOps practices.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 15+ years of experience in full-stack software development within enterprise environments.
- Strong programming experience with Java and Spring Boot frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience developing microservices-based architectures.
- Hands-on experience with containerized application development using Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise systems modernization initiatives.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, API development, and scalable backend architectures.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Familiarity with OpenShift container platforms used in federal environments.
- Experience leading technical teams or serving as a technical lead for large-scale development efforts.
- Ability to contribute to technical solutioning and proposal support activities for future growth initiatives.
