This role supports a fast-paced quality control laboratory on the 3rd shift, ensuring that products meet strict quality standards and comply with ISO 9001 and GMP requirements. The chemical technician performs a wide range of testing activities, maintains accurate quality records, and helps drive continuous improvement in both laboratory and production processes.
Responsibilities
- Prepare safety topics and lead weekly safety meetings to promote a strong safety culture within the laboratory.
- Ensure product quality and adherence to ISO 9001 standards by performing and reviewing required laboratory tests.
- Perform any area of testing required in the laboratory when requested or as operational needs arise.
- Monitor sample status in the quality control database and close and release product results in a timely and accurate manner.
- Identify, communicate, and recommend resolutions for personnel-related issues to the appropriate manager.
- Identify errors made by laboratory or production teams, such as missing labels on sample cups, incorrect product or customer information on sample labels, missing test results, or erroneous data, and communicate, retrain, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Enter all new customer and product specifications into the quality management system and maintain current specifications to ensure data accuracy.
- Validate certificates of analysis (C of A) when they are first released from the quality management system and confirm that correct specifications are in place.
- Initiate specification requests when no specifications are available to ensure products are tested against appropriate criteria.
- Monitor raw materials in quality inspection and release them in a timely manner once they meet specifications.
- Resolve raw material specification issues in collaboration with relevant teams, including blending and production, to ensure consistent product quality.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated experience working under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines.
- Hands-on experience with chemical testing in a laboratory environment.
- Knowledge of wet chemistry techniques and raw material testing.
- Ability to work effectively on a fixed 3rd shift schedule from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
- Strong attention to detail for accurate data entry and review in quality management and QC database systems.
- Ability to identify errors and implement corrective and preventive actions in both laboratory and production settings.
- Effective communication skills to lead safety meetings and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management standards.
- Experience working with quality management systems and maintaining product and customer specifications.
- Experience validating certificates of analysis (C of A) and ensuring correct specifications are applied.
- Ability to manage multiple samples and prioritize work to meet production timelines.
- Comfort working independently during night shift hours while maintaining high accuracy and quality standards.
Work Environment
This position operates in a quality control laboratory environment that supports manufacturing operations on a 3rd shift schedule from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The role involves routine use of chemical testing equipment and wet chemistry techniques, as well as regular interaction with quality management systems and QC databases. The technician works closely with production and blending teams to ensure raw materials and finished products meet required specifications. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to GMP and ISO 9001 standards, and consistent documentation and data integrity.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Plainfield, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
