Key Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid special education teaching certification or license appropriate for high school level
- Previous experience leading a Life Skills classroom highly valued; however, all experienced special education teachers are encouraged
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation
- Proficiency in functional academic and post-secondary transition planning
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Ability to guide and collaborate with paraprofessionals
Responsibilities:
- Create a supportive, inclusive classroom environment tailored to diverse student needs
- Oversee and mentor paraprofessionals within the classroom
- Develop, execute, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Design lesson plans focusing on life skills, functional academics, and social development
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations related to special education
- Engage in regular communication with families and school teams
- Collect and analyze student progress data, adjusting instruction as necessary to promote growth
