FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Lifeguard is responsible for the health and safety of members and guests in attendance at the Aquatic facility, carry out rescues as required, and are also responsible for the cleanliness of the aquatic facility. They also guide and mentor the lifeguard and pool attendant teams.
The Kroc Center Hawaii Lead Lifeguard will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers
2. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification
3. At least 3 years of lifeguard experience or a minimum of 1,500 work hours as a lifeguard at Kroc Center Hawaii.
Any equivalent combination of training and/or education in lieu of work experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Water Safety Instructor Certification
2. Certified Pool Operator certification
ESSNTIAL DUTIES:
1. Provide lifeguarding services, including rescuing swimmers in distress. Respond to emergencies and administer CPR/First Aid as trained. Complete and submit accident/incident and PTM reports.
2. Assist with supervising and coaching lifeguards and pool attendants; support swim programs as needed.
3. Help schedule lifeguards to ensure adequate pool coverage during operating hours. Review time exceptions, absences, and vacation requests with the Aquatics Manager and Coordinator.
4. Coordinate and conduct in-service training to ensure lifeguards maintain competence in first aid, CPR, and water rescue techniques.
5. Support the Aquatics Manager in overseeing aquatics programs and managing swimming events.
6. Deliver excellent customer service and create a positive guest experience through professional and courteous behavior.
7. Assist with maintaining cleanliness of pool areas, locker rooms, and related facilities (e.g., scrubbing, washing, litter removal).
8. Enforce pool rules and regulations; caution swimmers about unsafe practices and maintain order in and around the pool.
9. Follow established emergency action plans and procedures during emergencies.
10. Maintain swimming and rescue skills through conditioning swims and participation in all required training sessions and staff meetings.
11. Handle and record lost property according to procedures.
12. Observe, document, and report safety issues to supervisors.
13. Test and record water quality (chlorine and pH levels) as needed.
14. Ensure emergency equipment (rescue tubes, backboards, signage) is available and in good condition; report any damage or malfunction to the Aquatics Manager.
15. Assist with opening and closing aquatic facilities and perform roaming duties as required.
16. Support early childhood swim education programs and other community swim classes.
17. Work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
18. Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of staff, guests, and the public.
19. Work effectively as part of a team.
20. Maintain a neat, professional appearance.
21. Adhere to The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
22. Uphold the Kroc Center Hawaii Code of Ethics.
23. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 50-75 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.
COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
The position involves communicating with co-workers, clients, and vendors through spoken and written messages, as well as via telephone and the latest technologies. It also entails responding to requests, providing training and instructions, composing written language, reading, and potentially working at different work sites.
The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position also requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Rescue hooks, rescue tubes, ring buoys, spine boards, c-collars, and respirator.
Chemical feeders, chemicals, pool vacuums, wet/dry vacuums, pool filters and other pool maintenance equipment.
CERTIFICATES & LICENSES
1. American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers
2. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification -preferred
3. Lifeguard Instructor Certification -preferred
