What are Trust Fund Positions?Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side. We are bringing the Smithsonian off the National Mall and across the country through dynamic programming and affiliate partnerships, creating access for all. The Office of Advancement oversees and guides the fundraising efforts of the entire Smithsonian and is home to the central development organization for the Institution. In addition to raising significant support for a variety of Smithsonian initiatives, the Office of Advancement provides support services to advancement offices across the Institution. The office engages with staff throughout the Smithsonian in accomplishing their goals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe incumbent serves as a CRM Reporting Analyst, responsible for writing production and ad hoc reports to support Advancement operations. This role is essential for maximizing the value of the new Institutional CRM system, called Joint Audience and Membership Engagement System (JAMES). CRM Reporting Analyst is essential for maximizing the value of JAMES since the development team must rebuild critical reports, dashboards and create new standard and ad-hoc reports/dashboards in Salesforce and Tableau. This role focuses on programming expertise, front-end report development in Salesforce, creating impactful Tableau visualizations, data analytics, and resolving ad-hoc report requests, ensuring that data insights are easily accessible and actionable for staff. By handling these specialized tasks, the analyst will enable data-driven decision-making, optimize donor engagement strategies, and support fundraising goals. \
- Program Development & Design
- Writes design specifications based on requirements gathered from subject matter experts, documentation, existing reports, and best practices.
- Describes alternatives and constraints to users/focus groups and secures agreement on report/dashboard design.
- Develops programs using SQL, Salesforce CRMA, and Tableau, leveraging Amazon S3 and Amazon Redshift for data storage and analytics where needed.
- Ensures reports are user-focused, well-documented, and conform to OA standards.
- Testing & Documentation
- Writes structured test plans and executes them, documenting results thoroughly.
- Produces technical documentation including policies, guidance, and standard operating procedures.
- Collaboration & Issue Resolution
- Collaborates with team members and Advancement staff throughout the program lifecycle to resolve issues at each step.
- Acts as a liaison between programmers, specification writers, testers, and users to ensure clarity and resolution of questions.
- CRM Reporting & Analytics
- Plays a critical role in rebuilding existing reports and addressing a high volume of report requests as the Institutional CRM goes live.
- Develops front-end reports in Salesforce and creates impactful Tableau visualizations to support Advancement goals.
- Responds to ad hoc reporting needs, ensuring data insights are accessible and actionable for staff.
- Applies data analytics to optimize donor engagement strategies and support fundraising objectives.
- Enables data-driven decision-making by delivering timely, accurate, and relevant data insights.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSEducation
Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, data analytics or a related STEM discipline from an accredited institution.
Experience3 to 5 years of relevant experience, including:
- Writing complex SQL queries for relational databases.
- Building reports and dashboards in Tableau and/or Salesforce.
- Designing and maintaining structured datasets for reporting and analytics.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams and communicating technical information to non-technical audiences.
Preferred Skills
- Certifications in Tableau and/or Salesforce Reporting.
- Familiarity with version control systems like Git and development tools such as Jira.
- Experience working in advancement settings is a plus.
