Shadow Cats Rescue is a feline-only nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of cats that are often overlooked or difficult to place, including FeLV+ cats, special-needs cats, hospice cats and community cats. Founded in 1997, Shadow Cats is a respected organization with a large cage-free sanctuary, extensive community programs, a strong Trap-Neuter-Return program and the One Life Fund along with fundraising and educational initiatives. Shadow Cats has a long history advocating for community cats while maintaining the highest standards of care.
POSITION
This is a senior position with primary responsibility for the financial sustainability and public representation of Shadow Cats.
The candidate excels at interpersonal communication and turns this into financial support for Shadow Cats mission to ensure Shadow Cats has the financial strength to continue to provide the highest quality care to the cats in our care, to staff development and to expand and build lasting community partnerships while always being true to our mission.
The role includes individual giving, donor stewardship, grant writing and community involvement.
Responsibilities
Fundraising and Donor Cultivation- 80%
·Donor Acquisition
Develop and implement an overall fundraising strategy that includes individual giving, major gifts, corporate support, foundation support, grants, special events and other appropriate revenue sources.
Identify, cultivate and solicit new donors. Re-engage past potential donors.
Cultivate relationships with major prospective donors while recognizing that every donor is important to the organization, regardless of the size of their gift.
Seek out new sources of funding and continually identify opportunities to increase the financial sustainability of Shadow Cats.
· Donor Relations
Maintain relationships with all donors and potential donors.
Ensure timely and meaningful donor acknowledgment and communication.
Write or oversee donor thank-you communications and maintain an ongoing
relationship with supporters.
Help donors understand what their support means and ensure they remain connected to the mission and the cats.
•Campaign and Event Planning
Coordinate giving campaigns and signature events
- Grant writing and Research
Research foundations, sponsors and funding sources, animal welfare foundations corporate pet brands. Write and submit compelling grant proposals.
- Grassroots and Digital Campaigns
Oversee all efforts including sponsor-a cat, social media drives and peer to peer campaigns along with designated funds donated to Shadow Cats One Life Fund.
- Planned Giving
Fundraising for capital and legacy campaigns, future expansion, emergency plans, planned giving and estate planning. Develop communication protocol for legacies.
- Database Management
Accurate donor management. Knowledgeable in all platforms.
- Fiscal Responsibility
Strict adherence to budgets and working knowledge of Shadow Cats operating budget and the direct impact of every dollar raised.
- Community Relations and Advocacy
Ambassador role, spokesperson for Shadow Cats to elevate our profile
Oversee education programs and community outreach
- Sanctuary Operations and Feline Welfare
Collaborate with Community Outreach/Admin Manager and Sanctuary Manger for the highest standards of care for the resident cats at Shadow Cats. Know and be knowledgeable about the resident cats at Shadow Cats.
- Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, nonprofit management, business administration, public relations, communications or related field
Minimum 2-3 years of proven fundraising experience in nonprofit fundraising and senior leadership
Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written and public presentation
Proficient in standard office software and donor database platforms
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and strict data confidentiality
Ability to occasionally work weekends evening at events and community outreach
Must love cats and be comfortable spending time in an environment with the cats that call Shadow Cats home
